Gut wrenching. Intense. I’m in awe at what was accomplished here. Christopher Nolan’s most mature film to date. Feels unlike anything else he’s done, yet still incredibly Nolan with its presentation and playing with time.
The story of J. Robert Oppenheimer is a cautionary tale. The father of the atomic bomb isn’t an easy person to understand, but it’s done so pretty well here in this film. Cillian Murphy gives probably the best performance of his career. Btw I’m writing this in a bathroom next to a theatre showing Oppenheimer and I hear the bombs lol
I am a jumbled mess of words right now and I want this film to sit a little longer. I haven’t been this deeply immersed into another man’s subconscious since I watched 8 1/2 last year. The bomb test sequence was utterly intense and had me squirming more than the scariest horror film you can throw at me. Supporting cast was all excellent.
Robert Downey Jr. should win best supporting actor, and we’re not even in the award season films. Shoutout to Josh Harnett, Alden Ehrenreich, Rodrick Rules, Florence Pugh, Emily Blunt and especially Josh Peck. Dude went from kids tv Star to trying-too-hard-to-be-liked Vine celebrity to playing a massive role in the most important scene in a Christopher Nolan film.
