▶️ NOLAN RANKED

Oppenheimer is brutal to the senses. A frantic odyssey into the depths of the tartarus of human morality tormented by regret, sorrow, loss of empathy and imminent tragedy unleashed by the consequences of his actions. An overwhelming achievement in filmmaking, a frenetic and tension-filled cinematic experience with high technical levels and a main performance that shines for the ambiguity of his perception and the ease for conveying emotions through.

A profound and captivating exploration of the triumphs and horrors behind the pursuit of knowledge, and the conflicts inside the mind of an individual grieving the weight of his actions and the magnitude of its consequences. OPPENHEIMER sees up close the creation and destruction of power through the lenses of psychology… how it gestates, strengthens and corrodes in the hand of its bearer and in the eyes of the world that behold as judge.

Very few times Nolan has worried about the development of his characters and their human condition, but this time he chooses the human drama as the center of his spectacle, reflecting on mortality through the lenses of the psychological trauma of an individual tormented by the consequences of his actions and the morality that haunts him.

With a penetrating and hypnotizing gaze, Cillian Murphy takes us to the doors of a sordid terror both in form and idea, conveying emotions as he struggles to reconcile the weight of the ambiguity of his actions. It's not hyperbole when I say that this is probably Nolan's best performance in a movie. What Cillian does is truly amazing with emotions that transcend the screen.

The technical level behind OPPENHEIMER is out of this world. Filled with terrifying and shocking visuals, the movie portrays the horrors that surround our protagonist with suffocating close-ups and intimidating wide-angle shots. Add to that a glorious sound design with some deafening mixes that hunt down and frighten our protagonist in his most vulnerable moments building tension and enhancing every scene with pieces as creepy as they are epic. But what I think is the most impressive aspect of the movie, is the editing… a riotous montage that doesn’t stop from start to finish making the three hours fly by, but wreaking havoc on an audience overwhelmed by the density of the story and the complexity of the narrative.

I saw the movie about a week ago and it took me a while to reconcile the ideas in terms of my perception. And I think I liked it more as the days have passed. Not a big fan of Nolan but I can assure you that I was fascinated this time. Although the last third hour almost lost me.
