July 8, 2024. A butterfy in the grass, maybe a cabbage white. Today was spent getting ready and then travelling to Mont Tremblant. This photo was taken as we waited for the ferry at the Ottawa River. https://flic.kr/p/2q3ikR6
July 12, 2021. This solitary monarch butterfly was flitting around our back yard today, obviously interested in our milkweed plantation. It was nice and warm in the sun when I took this photo, but I still had a bit of a post-vaccine headache so I did get out biking. https://flic.kr/p/2maPkmW
July 21, 2018 - Though our milkweed plants are still too young to flower (it takes three years) we are delighted to find that they are still capable of sustaining monarch butterfly caterpillars like the one pictured here. We have a nice crop of milkweed in the back yard andf are doing our part to repopulate them. P.S. bike is in the shop so I spent the day coding and watching the ball game. https://flic.kr/p/29hHHf1
September 17, 2017. I spent the day working on the Contact North paper. I really wanted to be out cycling, but work takes priority. On the other hand, had I been away, I would have missed this beautiful monarch butterfly in the back yard.
July 11, 2016. I spotted dozens and dozens of these beautiful orange butterflies yesterday on my bike ride in LaRose forest. I couldn't get a goot photo with my phone but went back today with a proper camera to get this and a half dozen other images. The Great Spangled Fritillary in this area were feeding almost exclusively on the purple flowers seen in the photo, Joe Pye Weed (or Eutrochium) grwoing along the side of thee road in a few select (relatively wet) areas of the forest.
