Live Gently

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is Keep It Simple.

I always find this type of theme challenging, so to keep my page simple I simplified my colour palette and design – what do you think? I love how it turned out (smile!).

I started by stamping a chipboard page using Moonlight White Brilliance Ink and a Stamperia Create Happiness stamp set by Vicky Papaioannou. Next I embossed some white mixed media paper using a Sizzix Vintage Embossing Folder and cut it into a square. Then I die cut the foliage and flowers from the same white paper using a Wildflower Stems #1 Sizzix Thinlits set by Tim Holtz. I coloured the wildflower Stems using Spectrum Noir TriBlend markers and Spectrum Aqua markers. Then I bound the flower stems together using wax twine and I arranged everything onto the page. To finish, I added the “Live gently upon this earth” wording, which was a Tim Holtz sticker.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the amazing creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

We enjoyed a delicious custard tart the other day with our cuppa, the tart’s simplicity and the yellow hue reminded me of my page (smile!). As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m joining Bleubeard and Elizabeth with my cup of Green tea and this yummy British classic – wishing you all a very Happy T Day!

Challenges

As well as Try it on Tuesday, I’m pleased to be joining Art Journal Journey, where I’m hosting our Wonderfully Wild challenge, as I used Wildflower Stems #1 Thinlits on my page.

Wonderfully Wild at Art Journal Journey

I’m so pleased and honoured to be hosting Art Journal Journey this month.

The challenge theme that I’ve chosen is Wonderfully Wild

Of course this could be a wild animal, a wildly coloured background or a “wild” quote, like my page, or maybe wild flowers or you could just go wild with your design!

For my page, I started by creating a wildly colourful background using Distress Paints; the colours I used were Twisted Citron, Salvaged Patina and Tarnished Brass. When dry, I splattered the page with white acrylic paint and stamped an animal print design using black Archival Ink.

Next I fussy cut the jaguar’s head and the surrounding foliage, which took some time, from an Amazonia Stamperia paper pad. I arranged the fussy cut foliage onto the page, layering various die cut leaves, from Sizzix Thinlits sets by Tim Holtz, to build up the foliage and give more of a 3D effect. Then I layered the jaguar’s’ head over the top using double-sided foam tape. To finish, I added the “Take a walk on the wild side” wording using foam letter stickers.

My page was inspired by an amazing visitor to our garden; I was so surprised by this cat’s markings that I did a little research and found out that this is a Bengal Cat. Bengal cats have a wild appearance due to their coats, which comes from their leopard cat ancestry; yes they are actually a breed of hybrid cat created by crossing an Asian leopard cat with domestic cats. A Bengal cat’s coat usually has a golden shimmer and a mixture of spots, rosettes, arrowhead markings, or marbling too.

I hope you’re inspired to take a walk on the wild side with me this month, and join our Wonderfully Wild challenge. I’m really looking forward to visiting you and seeing how wonderfully wild your art journal pages are!

Thank you so much for joining me and Happy Journaling! Hugs, Jo x

Bright orange roses

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is In The Garden.

My page was inspired by some bright orange roses that you can find in our garden (smile!).

I started by die cutting the swirls in the background from white cardstock using an Adorned Sizzix Thinlits set by Tim Holtz. I arranged them to fit the page using Liquitex matte gel medium. Once dry, I haphazardly applied Pébéo white gesso over the top to give a distressed look and then I added some washes of diluted Tea Dye Distress Ink using a paintbrush. Next I cut the orange roses and foliage from a Kraft Paper Pad – Basics using a Bloom Sizzix Thinlits set; all by Tim Holtz. Once I had arranged the flower die cuts onto the page, to finish I added a Kaisercraft sticker, which says “smile”.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the amazing small inspired creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

My sister kindly gifted me this David Austin rose called Wildfire; orange coloured roses are my favourite and these make such a bold statement in our garden with their beautiful and bright orange hue – stunning!

Staying on the orange theme, here we are saying cheers with our orange coloured Aperol Spritz – this also qualifies me for T Stands for Tuesday, where our wonderful hosts Bleubeard and Elizabeth ask us to share a drink related post each week – Happy T Day everyone!
