This tutorial shows the essentials of how I created this art journal page taking a step-by-step approach that I used using white gesso, a marker pen, a napkin (from my dear friend, Erika), matte gel medium, inks, ephemera, glue tape, Thinlits die cuts, Liquitex acrylic inks and a gel pen.

Taking pride of place on our dining room table is this fabulous sign that we bought from a local home store, we just couldn’t resist (smile!).

As T Stands For Tuesday, I’m sharing this Hello Pumpkin mug that we saw in the same local home store which I just managed to resist buying (smile!) – wishing you all a very Happy T Day!

In a flutter

It’s time for a new challenge at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is Black & White + 1.

It was fun creating this page with the limited colour palette of black and white and my additional colour was the brown background of this chipboard page.

To see how my mixed media page came together, please check out my YouTube video which is only a few minutes long; it shows the essentials of how I created this page step-by-step as well as the different mixed media that I used.

Talking of black and white, here’s a sign that we saw when we visited a tea shop in Tenerife earlier this year; aren’t those pandas adorable – have a nice day!

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m also joining the T Gang with the red mug on the top left-hand side of my panda photo, did you spot it? Sending you “have a nice day” wishes – Happy T Day everyone!

Challenges

I’m pleased to be joining:

Art Journal Journey and Aimeslee‘s Anything Goes challenge with my page.

MIUCB #73 Anything Goes + optional Smooshing with my smoothed gesso background mixed media page.

Butterfly

It’s time for a new challenge at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is Make It Colourful.

I started this page by covering the page with Pébéo white gesso and then I collaged some leftover colourful papers around the edges, which were all from a Amazonia paper pad by Stamperia, using Liquitex matte gel medium.

Next I used a Stamperia stencil to add Ranger Texture Paste to the blank space, where there was no collaged paper. When the texture paste was dry, I added colour to the background using red Lustre wax and a wet wipe, and I edged the papers with a white Uniball gel pen. The butterflies and wording was fussy cut from the same paper pad, I edged them with a black Faber-Castell marker and then I arranged them down the centre of the page using glue dots. To finish, I splattered the page with white Liquitex acrylic ink.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the colourful creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

I’m still making it colourful, but this time over at T Stands for Tuesday with this array of loose leaf teas from a local supermarket, which will you choose? Happy T Day everyone!

Challenges

As well as Try it on Tuesday, I’m pleased to be joining Art Journal Journey and Aimeslee‘s Anything Goes challenge with my page.

Wild Flowers

Wild flowers are perfect for our Wonderfully Wild challenge at Art Journal Journey, which I’m so happy to be hosting this month – I hope to see you there!

For the background, I covered the page with Field Notes Collage tissue paper by Tim Holtz using Liquitex matte gel medium. Then I stained and distressed the background by applying layers of Pébéo white gesso using a brayer and washes of Brushed Corduroy, Vintage Photo and Ground Espresso Distress Ink. The pretty white rambling rose was fussy cut from a flower book and edged with a Dark Grey Faber-Castell marker. It was arranged onto the page with a Beautiful Wild Flowers postcard, various Field Notes Ephemera and a couple of Clipping stickers which read “make this journey of your own” and “go wherever any one wishes”; all by Tim Holtz.

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing a pot of green tea that I enjoyed at a local café, like my page my pretty cup has a vintage white rose design – Happy T Day!

Create

I had fun creating this page using some new crafting goodies from the Create Happiness range by Vicky Papaioannou from Stamperia.

To create the background, I collaged some blue design papers using a glue stick and I outlined the pieces using a fine line Uni Pin marker and a Sand Spectrum Aqua marker. Next, I added some Pébéo white gesso over the top of the papers using a brayer. The pretty bird in the photo frame was created by layering together: a photo negative frame from a Create Happiness Ephemera pack by Vicky Papaioannou from Stamperia; some birch tree cardstock; and a bird image from a Secret Diary Washi Pad by Vicky Papaioannou from Stamperia. I arranged them onto the page with more of the tickets, labels and postage stamps from the Ephemera pack, birch tree cardstock and Secret Diary Washi Pad images and also some little butterfly stickers, a small tag tied with wax twine and three buttons. I added some leaf washi tape stickers and then the “Create” wording, which was from an Atelier des Arts chipboard pack by Stamperia. To finish, I splattered the page with white Liquitex acrylic paint.

As T Stands for Tuesday, I’m sharing my decaf oat milk latte, that I enjoyed recently at a local café, and joining our wonderful hosts Bleubeard and Elizabeth, who ask us to share a drink related post each week – Happy T Day everyone!

Challenges

I’m also joining Art Journal Journey and the lovely Halle of Halle’s Hobbies, who is hosting her I’ve Got A Notion theme with the buttons on my page.

As you’ll find birds, foliage and butterflies in the garden and also on my page, I’m reminding you still have another week to join our In The Garden challenge at Try it on Tuesday too.

Bright orange roses

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is In The Garden.

My page was inspired by some bright orange roses that you can find in our garden (smile!).

I started by die cutting the swirls in the background from white cardstock using an Adorned Sizzix Thinlits set by Tim Holtz. I arranged them to fit the page using Liquitex matte gel medium. Once dry, I haphazardly applied Pébéo white gesso over the top to give a distressed look and then I added some washes of diluted Tea Dye Distress Ink using a paintbrush. Next I cut the orange roses and foliage from a Kraft Paper Pad – Basics using a Bloom Sizzix Thinlits set; all by Tim Holtz. Once I had arranged the flower die cuts onto the page, to finish I added a Kaisercraft sticker, which says “smile”.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the amazing small inspired creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

My sister kindly gifted me this David Austin rose called Wildfire; orange coloured roses are my favourite and these make such a bold statement in our garden with their beautiful and bright orange hue – stunning!

Staying on the orange theme, here we are saying cheers with our orange coloured Aperol Spritz – this also qualifies me for T Stands for Tuesday, where our wonderful hosts Bleubeard and Elizabeth ask us to share a drink related post each week – Happy T Day everyone!

Lovely lavender days

It’s the first Friday of the month, so it’s time for our new challenge at the Creative Artiste Challenge Blog, which as always is Anything Mixed Media Goes.

For my mixed media page, I covered the background with pieces of book pages using Liquitex matte gel medium and then I painted some Liquitex Parchment acrylic in the white spaces. I added Gray 5 Liquitex acrylic paint and then some Pébéo white gesso using a palette knife. When dry, I stamped the clock, postage marks and faux lace using a Provincial Kaisercraft stamp set and some black Archival Ink. I added a bit more white gesso over the top of the stamping to push it back into the background more. Then I added a lavender image, which was sent to me by a dear friend, and the window, bouquet and and hearts die cuts, which were from the Provence Stamperia collection. To finish, I added some pieces of green lace to the top and bottom of the page and a Kaisercraft sticker, which reads “Lovely days with you”.

For more inspiration please check out the amazing creations from our Guest Designer and my fellow Design Team members over at Creative Artiste too. All you need to do is to use three different mediums on your projects to join our mixed media challenge; I hope you are inspired to join us, it would be lovely to see you there!

My page was inspired by the “Violet Walk” at Lytham Hall, it is newly planted and commemorates the last of the Clifton family who lived at the Hall. As you can see, this part of the pathway is lined by lavender, which isn’t quite in bloom yet.

The colours of these flower beds centre around purple, as it was “Violet” Clifton who was the last of the Clifton family to live here.

Although the lavender wasn’t yet flowering, the cat mint (which looks like lavender until you get closer) situated at the far end of the walk, was in full bloom – so beautiful (smile!).

Challenges

I’m joining the lovely Halle of Halle’s Hobbies and her I’ve Got A Notion challenge over at Art Journal Journey with the faux and real lace on my page; I’d never heard of “notions” before in a sewing context and was surprised that it’s the same as “haberdashery” here in Britain.

Here comes Summer

It’s time for a new challenge over at Try it on Tuesday, which for the next two weeks is Here Comes Summer.

I was inspired by summer sunshine and the pretty poppies that we have in our garden.

I started by covering the page with Cadmium Yellow and Cadmium Orange Liquitex Basics acrylic paints and then using Pébéo white gesso to add the stencilling with a Tim Holtz stencil/stamp set. Next I fussy cut the poppy flowers and foliage from an old garden flower book and I stuck them in place using Liquitex matte gel medium. I had fun adding more colour to the flowers using a Black Ink Derwent Inktense pencil, Yellow, Sunflower, Scarlet, Crimson and Sea Green Spectrum Aqua markers, a white Uniball gel pen and a black Uni Pin fine line marker. I defined the stencilled images a bit more using the white Uniball gel pen and then I splattered the page using black DecoArt acrylic paint. To finish, I added the wording “Hello Sunshine” and “The Sweet taste of Summer”, which were cut from a Summer Season’s Graphic 45 paper.

For more inspiration please pop over to Try it on Tuesday to see the amazing small inspired creations from our Guest Designer and the rest of my Design Teamies.

The Welsh Poppies are flowering beautifully in our garden and enjoying some much needed sunshine (smile!).
