New York is the most populous city in the United States of America and one of the most important world centres.

New York is also home to the Magical Congress of the United States or MACUSA, which presently meets in a hidden part of the famous Woolworth Building.[1]

In 1926, Newton Scamander travelled to New York, while returning from a year long trip to research magical creatures that led to his authorship of wizarding bestseller Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, in 1927.[2] He had originally intended to only stay for a few hours, but ended up staying in the city much longer.[3]

An anti-witchcraft organisation called the New Salem Philanthropic Society held rallies in 1920s New York City, led by charismatic leader Mary Lou Barebone and her three adopted children.[1]

While in New York Scamander brought a case full of fantastic beasts with him. When they escaped, he rounded them up again with the help of the Goldstein sisters and a No-Maj named Jacob Kowalski. Newt told Tina Goldstein that he came to New York to buy a rare Appaloosa Puffskein as a present for someone, but in reality he meant to travel on to the desert of Arizona to release his Thunderbird, which he rescued from captivity in Egypt.[1]

Obscurial attack

Dark Wizard Gellert Grindelwald was also present in 1926, although as a wanted criminal he kept his identity concealed as Percival Graves. At the same time, an Obscurial caused havoc around New York, committing murder and tearing up buildings and streets. Scamander and ex-Auror Tina Goldstein helped MACUSA solve the mystery of who the Obscurial was and why the dark power was unleashed.[1]

During October of 1926, No-maj brooms were seeing a record breaking of sales, The New York Ghost saw this as a questionable investiment oppurtunity.

On 6 December, a entertainer was convicted after a public magical juggling display and a Idahoan foxtrot dancer was caught drunk while riding a broom after claiming a unknown brize. Also a family Poltergeist went missing after a house alteraction. The wizarding community entered in The New York Ghost, wondering if No-Maj literature was worth reading.[4]

Eulalie Hicks came in 1932 to New York with the aim of persuading Jacob Kowalski to join Dumbledore's army, Jacob at first resisted but Hicks convinced him to go with her. Later, likely in the same year, Queenie and Jacob's wedding took place in New York.[5]
