Cheat Codes

Cheat Codes were common for most Guitar Hero video games on console to activate special graphical or gameplay effects.

For Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, and Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, tap the fret at the main menu. For remaining Guitar Hero games, go to Options, Cheats, and then Enter Cheat. The following list below shows the abbreviations of the fret colors for the cheats.

• G = Green
• R = Red
• Y = Yellow
• B = Blue
• O = Orange

If notes are bunched, two or more frets should be held down during the same strum (Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock & Guitar Hero: Aerosmith only). Guitar Hero World Tour and any newer games don't have chords and have 8 digits to input codes.

The earlier Guitar Hero games had different cheat code inputs depending on the region of the game. NTSC is the North American version of the game and PAL is the European and Australian version of the game.

Guitar Hero

No Venue	NTSC version: B→Y→O→B→Y→O PAL version: O→Y→O→B→B→Y The band will play in total darkness where there is no crowd.
Rock Meter Stays Green	NTSC version: Y→B→O→O→B→B→Y→O PAL version: O→B→Y→Y→B→B→O→Y Your Rock Meter will never go down for making mistakes. This cheat doesn't work in Career. This cheat disables game save.
Skull Head Crowd	NTSC version: O→Y→B→B→O→Y→B→B PAL version: Y→B→Y→Y→B→B→O→O The crowd will have skull heads.
Unlock All	NTSC version: Y→O→B→B→O→Y→Y PAL version: Y→O→O→Y→B→B Everything is unlocked. This cheat disables game save.

Guitar Hero II

Unlock All (PS2)	NTSC version: B→Y→O→R→O→Y→R→Y→R→Y→R→Y→R→Y PAL version: B→Y→O→R→O→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y Unlocks all characters, items, and Quickplay songs in the game. This cheat disables game save. IMPORTANT NOTES: (Auto) Game Save feature must not be pre-disabled. Specifically, when game DVD is booted the system checks for the presence of PS2 memory card; if none found the option is given: Continue play without game save? Yes/No. If “Yes” a second option is given: Disable auto-save? Yes/No. If you choose “Yes” (which you would normally do if playing without a memory card because after each completed song the game hangs up while trying to auto-save the performance stats to an empty port) the cheat code above (and only the above cheat) will not work. If planning on using this cheat; choose “No” then continue to the Main menu (the one where you choose: Career Mode, Quick Play, Options, etc.), tap in the code. Once the code is accepted; confirmation in white lettering appears stating that the Unlock cheat is active and that game save feature is disabled. After message disappears, you are able to play any song you want in either Career Mode or Quick Play mode, however, you can only play the songs normally available within the particular mode; which means that more songs are available in Career Mode. Also, you can directly choose to play any/all songs in Easy difficulty the first time around, which may not normally possible to do on certain songs until you have invested a lot of time into the game. It seems that especially in the case of encore songs you must first play them in at least the Medium skill level because the song which precedes it doesn’t seem to initiate an encore song at all unless it is played at the medium skill level or above. It may not be possible to change skill levels between an encore song and the associated song.
Unlock All Songs (Xbox 360)	NTSC version: B→Y→O→R→Y→O→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y PAL version: B→Y→O→R→Y→O→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y→B→Y Unlocks all Quickplay songs in the game. This cheat disables game save.

Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s

In Guitar Hero Encore: Rocks the 80s, cheat codes are activated by pressing the corresponding buttons in the main menu just like in Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II. There are combinations of buttons you can tap in from the Yellow Fret to Orange Fret, but for the "Unlock Everything" cheat, the Red Fret is also involved.

Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock

Main article: Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock/Cheats

Instead of activating cheat codes by pressing buttons in the main menu, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock features a Cheat Menu in the Options screen where you can input combinations of codes to unlock cheats in the Cheat Menu. Hold the corresponding fret buttons and strum up or down as if you are strumming a guitar to input the cheat code's value. 4-note and 5-note chords don't have audio but their inputs still count.

Bret Michaels Singer (PC, PS3, X360)	GR→GR→GR→GB→GB→GB→RB→R→R→R→RB→R→R→R→RB→R→R→R The singer will be the singer from Poison, Bret Michaels, on all songs. Without this cheat code (and in all versions of the game), Bret Michaels only appears as a singer for the songs "Talk Dirty to Me" by Poison and "Go That Far" by Bret Michaels.
Easy Expert	GR→GY→YB→RB→BO→YO→RY→RB The Rock Meter's needle drops less when making mistakes, allowing the player to make more mistakes before failing a song than normal. "Easy Expert" and "Precision Mode" cheats cannot be activated simultaneously. This cheat does not work in Career (solo or co-op) or online play. This cheat disables the unlock of achievements in the Xbox 360 version (as well as the PlayStation 2 version for RetroAchievements) until the game is restarted. Your scores will not be saved on the leaderboard.
Hyperspeed	O→B→O→Y→O→B→O→Y Toggling through numbers 1–5 stretches and increases the scrolling speed of the highway, as well as distancing notes away accordingly. The higher number, the more the highway stretches and speeds up. Hyperspeed 2 is often considered by players to be a good balance of distancing notes and reacting to them on screen. Hint: This cheat can easily be memorized by memorizing the phrase "Oh, boy! Oh, boy!"
Large Gems (PS2, Wii)	G→R→G→Y→G→B→G→O→G→B→G→Y→G→R→G→GR→RY→GR→YB→GR→BO→GR→YB→GR→RY→GR→GY The notes on the highway enlarges by twice the size. Long notes have wide lines.
No Fail	GR→B→GR→GY→B→GY→RY→O→RY→GY→Y→GY→GR Your Rock Meter will never go down. This cheat does not work in Career (solo or co-op) or online play. This cheat disables the unlock of achievements in the Xbox 360 version until the game is restarted. Your scores will not be saved on the leaderboard.

"Easy Expert" and "Precision Mode" cheats cannot be activated simultaneously. Trivia/Hint: The Precision Mode cheat code is hinted upon complete Career on Expert difficulty. The congratulative message is: [Band name] YOU BEAT GUITAR HERO III ON EXPERT! Wow. You've mastered expert -- Go start a band already! Take it to the next level with the PRECISION MODE CHEAT! Unlock All Songs	YO→RB→RO→GB→RY→YO→RY→RB→GY→GY→YB→YB→YO→YO→YB→Y→R→RY→R→Y→O Unlocks all Quickplay songs in the game. Since this cheat is not located in the Cheat Menu, it is always active.
Unlock Everything	GRBO→GRYB→GRYO→GYBO→GRYB→RYBO→GRYB→GYBO→GRYB→GRYO→GRYO→GRYB→GRYO Unlocks all characters, items, and Quickplay songs in the game. Since this cheat is not located in the Cheat Menu, it is always active. Tip: If the above cheat sequence is too confusing to read, follow this sequence instead by avoiding these frets: Y→O→B→R→O→G→O→R→O→B→B→O→B. There is no sound inputting 4-note or 5-note chords in the Cheat Menu but they will still register. Tip: In the Xbox 360, after putting in this code, go into the Store on any Career Mode and you will unlock every Store achievements ("Axe Collector", "Burnin' a Hole in Your Pocket", "Got 'em All", and "Track Master" achievements).

Guitar Hero World Tour

Unlike the games before it, Guitar Hero World Tour has an 8 digit sequence to input cheats, and chords are not available. Green through Blue frets are inputted and Orange is not used when inputting cheat codes.

The "Large Gems" cheat has been taken off, as well as "No Fail" and "Precision Mode" have been taken off too. The "Unlock All Songs" cheat has been renamed to "Quickplay Songs" that can toggled on and off, but "Pull Me Under" is not unlocked with that cheat and can only be unlocked by completing any Career mode. Also, some cheats unlocks hidden rockers that can only be unlocked by cheats: Aaron Steele, Johnny Viper, Nick, and Rina.

AT&T Ballpark	Y→G→R→R→G→B→R→Y Unlocks the AT&T Ballpark venue. The band will play at the AT&T Ballpark venue.
Auto Kick	Y→G→R→B→B→B→B→R All bass pedal notes will automatically be played by themselves. This cheat only works for Drums. This cheat disables the unlock of achievements while it's active. Your scores will not be saved on the leaderboard. This cheat makes all cash earnings to be $0 when playing Drums. This cheat does not work in Career (solo or band) or online play.
Extra Line 6 Tones! (PC, PS3, X360)	G→R→Y→B→R→Y→B→G Unlocks extra guitar effects in the Music Studio for Lead Guitar and Rhythm Guitar. This cheat is always active.
Flame Color	G→R→G→B→R→R→Y→B Alters the color of the flame on top of your frets when playing notes. Alters the color of the Star Power Overdrive that is on the side of the highway when activating Star Power. Colors you can choose from are: Normal, Pink, Stealth, Eggs & Bacon, Old Glory, Solid Gold, Platinum, Diabolic, Toxic Waste, Black, Pastel, Dark, and Outline.
Gem Color	B→R→R→G→R→G→R→Y Alters the color of the notes on the highway (except when Star Power is activated). Alters the color of your fret bar. Colors you can choose from are: Normal, Pink, Stealth, Eggs & Bacon, Old Glory, Solid Gold, Platinum, Diabolic, Toxic Waste, Black, Pastel, Dark, and Outline.
HyperSpeed	G→B→R→Y→Y→R→G→G Unlocks "HyperGuitar", "HyperDrums", and "HyperBass" cheats. Johnny Viper!	B→R→B→B→Y→Y→Y→G Unlocks Johnny Viper as a playable rocker. This cheat is always active.
Nick!	G→R→B→G→R→B→B→G Unlocks Nick as a playable rocker. This cheat is always active.
Performance Mode	Y→Y→B→R→B→G→R→R Makes the highway and heads-up displays (HUDs) invisible, revealing only the stage. This cheat makes the game harder to play, in which you will have to guess notes at the right time by memory and you can't see how well you're performing.
Quickplay songs	B→B→R→G→G→B→B→Y Unlocks most Quickplay songs in the game excluding "Pull Me Under", which requires completing any Career. When deactivated, songs that weren't normally unlocked yet will be relocked until they are unlocked in any Career normally.
Rina!	B→R→G→G→Y→Y→Y→G Unlocks Rina as a playable rocker. This cheat is always active.
Star Color	R→R→Y→R→B→R→R→B Alters the color of the notes on the highway when Star Power is activated. Alters the color of long star gems when you whammy Star Power. Colors you can choose from are: Normal and Gold.
Vocal Fireball	R→G→G→Y→B→G→Y→G Changes your comet on Vocals to a fireball.

Guitar Hero: Metallica

Just like Guitar Hero World Tour, Guitar Hero: Metallica also shares the same type of Cheat Menu where you press Green Fret to Blue Fret and cheats are only 8 digits long. The 4 hidden characters and AT&T Ballpark venue from Guitar Hero World Tour isn't in Guitar Hero: Metallica but Guitar Hero: Metallica have two new cheats: "Always Drums Fill" and "Metallica Costumes". Also, the "Quickplay Songs" cheat isn't in the game since all the songs in the setlist are already unlocked. The cheat codes from Guitar Hero World Tour are the same combinations for Guitar Hero: Metallica.

Metallica Costumes	G→R→Y→B→B→Y→R→G You can alter Metallica rockers' costumes to: Normal, Classic, or Zombie. The Classic and Zombie costumes can also be [[../Unlockables|obtained normally]] through Career by acquiring at least 150 stars and 200 stars on different songs respectively in an instrumental or Band Career.

Guitar Hero: Smash Hits

Always Drum Fill	G→G→R→R→B→B→Y→Y All drum notes are removed from the highway. Throughout the entire song, you can freestyle anything you want on drums but your score and notes hit will always be 0. Guitar Hero 5

Guitar Hero 5 has new cheats and modifiers. New cheats and modifiers included in Guitar Hero 5 are "All HOPOs", "Contest Winner 1", "HUD Free Mode", and "All Characters". There is one pseudo-cheat, a fake cheat, called "Absolutely Nothing" that is used as a joke. A cheat from Guitar Hero, "No Venue". has returned as "Focus Mode", but instead of the band being only visible, the entire background is black to prevent all distractions. Since the Music Studio has been upgraded to the GHStudio and there are different Guitar Effects, the "Extra Line 6 Tones!" cheat is gone. "No Fail", "Free Drum" (which was called "Always Drum Fill"), and "Hyper-Speed" cheats/modifiers are already unlocked from the start so they don't have any codes.

Cheats and other modifiers are located in the Options menu of your Band setup options. They are separated in Extras (for modifiers) and Cheats (for actually cheating in the game).
