The Puerto Rican Connection is a mission in Grand Theft Auto IV given to protagonist Niko Bellic by community leader Manny Escuela from the West Bohan Community Center in South Bohan, Bohan, Liberty City.

Description[]

In the opening cutscene, when Manny Escuela and his camera man Jay Hamilton review one of their clips on television, Manny snaps, believing it makes him look "gay". When Niko walks in, Manny orders him to eliminate some of his former friends who have been "talkin' all kinds of shit". He reveals that they will be riding the "El Train" from Algonquin to Dukes.

Mission Objectives[]

In order to complete the mission the player must:

  • Go to the Algonquin Bridge.
  • The target is on that train. Follow the train and take him out when he gets off.
  • The target got off the train.
  • Take out the targets.

Enemies[]

Deaths[]

  • Spanish Lords members (deceased) - Killed by Niko for disrespecting Manny.

Walkthrough[]

The player must head over to the yellow marker at Brunner Street in BOABO, Broker, at the Algonquin Bridge overpass. A cutscene will reveal the subway train conveying Manny's former friends passing overhead toward Broker. After the cutscene, the player must follow the train to Schottler Station, the targets' destination. Once at the station, the player can head toward the platform and eliminate the three targets, all of whom are armed with pistols.

The player can also wait outside the station that the targets get into an Emperor parked outside. The player must tail them until they arrive at Burger Shot in Beechwood City. The player can keep following them to the destination by keeping a distance. If the player gets too close, the targets will get spooked and will become hostile and shoot on sight.

If the player destroys their car before they arrive to it, they'll automatically become hostile and will try to attack the player and/or run away as soon they get off the train. Their Emperor cannot be jacked, either. However, it can be pushed far away with another vehicle and the targets will still walk towards it despite the distance.

After this, Niko will cut his ties with Manny.

This section/page depicts all cutscenes and dialogues in the mission The Puerto Rican Connection in Grand Theft Auto IV.

West Bohan Community Center
At the West Bohan Community Center, Manny Escuela and Jay Hamilton are sitting on a couch, watching Manny's documentary on TV.
Jay: (Narrating on TV) Manny Escuela combines a powerful urban masculinity with a lighter side. Here, shortly after cleaning up five blocks, he teaches a group of women in the art of competitive street dancing.
Jay: (speaking along with the narration) Powerful… Lighter side!… Teaches a group of women…
Manny: Yo man! You made me look gay, man. I warned you, bro.
Jay: What? No? You don't look gay. You look a little metrosexual or something. It's good, it's good.
Manny: Metrosex-- Man, who the hell ever heard of a metrosexual ex-gangster, man?
Manny turns the TV off as Niko walks in.
Jay: Hey!
Manny: I'm a lord, man, not a lady. This show was gonna make me famous!
Jay: You are gonna be famous...
Manny: Shit. Yo, Niko, man - what am I supposed to do here man? I got the film genius here making me look like a transsexual, or something, on TV. And now some punks been talkin' all kinds of shit too.
Niko: What punks?
Manny: Man, bitches I used to roll with. Guys caught up in the game. Punks in too deep, man. Yo I tried, man, I tried to be a good guy. I said, I'm reformed, man. But I'm pure ghetto, man. And this show's garbage.
Jay: Oh, come on.
Manny: We don't have the killer shot, man.
Jay: What? Jeez.
Manny: We need to go bust somebody, man.
Niko: Do what you want, as long as it doesn't involve me.
Manny: Hey, yo, man, we're brethren right? Give it up, man. A'ight, man. Yo listen, can you shut these punks up for me please?
Niko: Where are they?
Manny: They're gonna be comin' in on the El Train, man. From Algonquin to Dukes, man. Hey I owe you, man. I owe you big time.
Niko: Okay.
Niko leaves.
Manny: You see that, man? You see that, man? Yo, that is streets right there, man. Not none of this shit. Got me dancing in skirts with people in the neighborhood, man. What the fuck is that, man?
Following the Train
Niko goes to the Broker side of the Algonquin Bridge and chases the train with the sargets on board. Depending on the distance between Niko and the train, he may make the following comments.
Niko: I'm losing the fucking train.
Niko: Where is the goddamn train?
Niko: Shit, I'm losing it.
Niko: Fucking Manny, making me chase stupid train.
Niko: How am I meant to catch this fucking train?
The train eventually stops at Schottler Station, where the targets get off. If Niko doesn't kill them in or near the station, they get into a waiting car.
Gang Member 1: Damn, son. I hate taking the train. When we going get us a Patriot or something? Ride in style.
Gang Member 2: When we make us some money, mamahuevo.
They get in the car and drive to the Burger Shot in Beechwood City.

Gang Member 1: That boy be giving us the eyeball.
Gang Member 2: You know what happened last time some puto thought he'd stare me down.
Gang Member 1: Hell yeah I do. Ice this fool.
They start attacking Niko.

Niko eliminates the gang members.
Mission Complete
Niko calls Manny.
Niko: You don't need to worry about people talking garbage no more.
Manny: You're pure ghetto, man. Just like me, kid. I'm gonna thank you in all my acceptance speeches, man, for real.
Mission Failed

Niko calls Manny.
Niko: I lost the train.
Manny: I thought you was the streets, man? You ain't shit, man.

Niko calls Manny.
Niko: I saw them get off the train but they got away.
Manny: They got away? That just ain't good enough, man. This is my rep that's in danger. Shit.

Trivia[]

  • The mission is an obvious homage to the film The French Connection, in which Gene Hackman, playing a New York cop, chases a hitman on an elevated train in identical fashion. Similarly, there is a mission in Grand Theft Auto Online called The Los Santos Connection, likewise a reference to the film.
    • On its way, the train passes Hove Beach station, but will not call there. In the aforementioned film, the motorman of the train doesn't stop at a station under the hitman's orders, so this may be a reference.
  • In the beginning cutscene, Manny says "I'm a Lord, not a Lady", referring to a show in another Rockstar game, Max Payne.
  • The train travels on the wrong side of the tracks, an error also found in the missions Three Leaf Clover and For the Man Who Has Everything.
  • This mission is similar to the mission Snail Trail from Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, since both involve following a train to take out a passenger when it arrives.
  • This mission is also similar to the mission Wrong Side of the Tracks from the aforementioned game, since both Niko and Carl follow the train and kill their enemies (Carl by bike and Niko by car).
