The Mount Chiliad Launch Facility is a former secret U.S. nuclear launch facility in Grand Theft Auto Online, inside of Mount Chiliad in Blaine County, San Andreas.
Description[]
According to Phoenicia Rackman, the facility was built during the Cold War in the 1960s, constructed in secret so that civilians didn't know a large nuclear arsenal was being held "just over the Vinewood Hills". The base had been sealed for decades until Avon Hertz opened it. The entrance is hidden behind a fake set of electrical boxes in a road tunnel inside of Mount Chiliad.
Just past the entrance is a long tunnel before reaching the facility itself, a maze of rail tunnels and small aircraft storage areas (with covered V-65 Molotoks and Pyros inside them). Past these areas is a large blast door leading to the facility's lab area, modeled in a 1950s and 60s brutalist architectural style. The ground floor is an open space with decorative plants scattered around. The first floor contains computers and servers, and has several open spaces with balconies and catwalks that look down upon the ground floor. The second floor, also containing open spaces with balconies and catwalks, is accessed through a central staircase that runs through the center of the lab, and has Orbital Cannon terminals located throughout. Several hallways connect throughout the lab, leading to unknown locations. The main "lobby" area on the ground floor also features the entrance to the missile silo access tunnels, leading to the silo itself, which opens up to the southern face of the mountain.
After the death of Avon Hertz and the destruction of Cliffford, the IAA seize the facility and condemn it. As additional preventive measures, the power is cut off and the server infrastructure is quarantined.
Events of Grand Theft Auto Online[]
In the Act III finale of The Doomsday Heist, the protagonist infiltrates the facility to stop Avon Hertz and his AI Cliffford from using it to launch a missile to end humanity. The protagonist uses the computers and the Orbital Cannon terminals in the lab to disable the missile launch and destroy Cliffford's mobile cloud servers, then use the silo access tunnels to reach Avon before chasing him out of the silo itself with Thruster jetpacks.
In ULP - Cleanup, the player is tasked with returning to the now IAA-controlled facility in order to completely remove any leftover trace of Cliffford from the on-site servers. There are several juggernauts that have been left dormant inside the facility since the Doomsday Heist events, as they were deemed too expensive to remove by the IAA. During the hacking process into the facility's servers, the player accidentally triggers a security protocol which activates all the juggernauts, forcing them to fend off a heavily armed resistance in order to escape the facility.
