Middle Park is a neighborhood and public park in Grand Theft Auto IV, Episodes from Liberty City and Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, located in the northern region of Algonquin, Liberty City.
History[]
Middle Park was built in the mid-19th century by Frederico Fitzpatrick in a bid to provide a "great democratic meeting ground" for all classes to deal drugs[1], though it was prohibited to African-Americans[2]. The park banned picnics, blowjobs, walking on grass, "fruity exercises", and sports[3]. Masturbation was permitted between 5 PM and 7 AM.
Description[]
Middle park is bounded to the west by Frankfort Avenue (bordering Middle Park West and Varsity Heights), to the north by Topaz Street (bordering North Holland and East Holland), to the east by Columbus Avenue (bordering Lancaster and Middle Park East), and to the south by Nickel Street (bordering Star Junction). Quartz Street cuts across Middle Park, above which is found the Middle Park Arch on its western extremity in front of Frankfort Avenue.
A haven of peace and tranquility at the heart of a tumultuous metropolis, Middle Park is the second largest park of Liberty City and by far the most popular. The terrain is hilly and wooded and strewn with glades, where people can be seen practicing Tai Chi, and a sizeable lake stretches on either side of Quartz Street. The lake is fringed by a walkway, and a restaurant can be found on its northwestern shore. On the southern shore of the lake lies Middle Park Terrace which precedes a large underground lavatory enclosed by a charming arcade. Middle Park abounds with architectural gems such as The Libertonian, the Middle Park Monument and the Middle Park Obelisk. Regarded as "The Lungs of Liberty City", Middle Park is the meeting ground of predilection for local residents, businessmen and tourists.
Crime[]
Middle Park is notoriously unsafe. There were 83 murders in the park in 2007[4]. Furthermore, many prostitutes and vagrants can be seen loitering throughout the park.
Influence[]
Middle Park is a rendition of Central Park[5] located in Manhattan, New York City.

Oversights[]
- A rare glitch on the PS3 version will cause all the land, including the bridge, to disappear, leaving only the trees floating in mid air. This will cause pedestrians and vehicles to fall through the map. Cars will continue to pass over the bridge even though it has disappeared.
Trivia[]
- The hourglass-like shape of Middle Park's massive lake in GTA IV has led some observers to point out that the lake is shaped similarly to an alien when viewed overhead or viewed through the map, the lake's northern island filling in as the "alien's eye".
- A former website of Rockstar employee's Adrian Page featured a screenshot of a section of Middle Park running on Grand Theft Auto V's updated RAGE Engine.
- In The Ballad of Gay Tony, if Luis Lopez gets too drunk and blacks out, he may wake up on the island in the middle of the lake.
- Boats like the Squalo were originally in Middle Park, but were removed for unknown reasons, most likely because the size of the lake is too small for driving boats.
