Brother Marcus is the deuteragonist in Grand Theft Auto.
He is voiced by Johnny Wilson, who provided vocals for the game's theme song under the alias "Robert De Negro".[2]
History[]
Background[]
Brother Marcus is the leader of the Brotherhood of Jah Army of Love (a.k.a. the Rastas) in Vice City and has been in a gang war for over seven years. Brother Marcus is said to control the drugs trade in Vice City.
According to his VCPD crime record, Marcus is a cross-dresser, dressing up as "Sister Elisha" on Saturday nights. He is currently being investigated for bombings, executions, woundings, various ninja high jinks, Ganja propaganda, fraud, pilfering and dealing narcotics.
Events of Grand Theft Auto[]
In 1997, after the GTA Protagonist is blackmailed by the corrupt Vice Squad officer Samuel Deever into doing his dirty work and taking down the Rastas, Brother Marcus offers them a lot of protection if they choose to join forces with them.
If they choose to keep working for Deever, they will be told by him to go and destroy a Limousine containing drugs from Cuba; doing so, it will be revealed that the protagonist killed Deever's wife in the explosion and Brother Marcus says it will be safer working for him. If the player chooses to join forces with Marcus from the start, then he will welcome the protagonist to the Rastas and inform them of more work at the three groups of payphones.
Upon accepting the offer, Brother Marcus eventually takes his revenge on Deever by sending the protagonist and three Rastas to attack his house and kill Deever and his corrupt drug squad. Most of his tasks are to help the members of the Brethren get rid of the "minions of Babylon", which is a term the Jamaican gang uses for the police, government agents, politicians and judges. During one of his jobs, Brother Marcus informs the protagonist that the "high priest of Babylon" has entered town for a radio show and must be dealt with. The protagonist then has 2 minutes to get to west Felicity where his Limousine is located, along with a swarm of bodyguards. It is also revealed that the "high priest" assassinated during this job was none other than the President of the United States.
Brother Marcus eventually discovers the Vice Squad plans to kill his mother in order to get to him. The protagonist quickly steals a Taxi and takes her back to her home in east Vice Shores safely.
After the protagonist helps their gang wage war against the corrupt agents, Brother Marcus calls them one last time asking them to meet him in Greek Heights to collect their retirement pay.

- According to the January 2001 exclusive Grand Theft Auto III world premiere found in PlayStation 2 Official Magazine (UK) Issue 3, Dan Houser had plans to bring back popular characters from the original 2D Universe games such as Bubba, Brother Marcus, some of the characters from Grand Theft Auto: London, and gangs from Grand Theft Auto 2 to the 3D Universe.
- While none of these characters returned, El Burro's character was entirely rewritten for the series' new universe continuity.
