Happy Days Are Here Again/Get Happy by Lou Levin (Barbra Streisand's version covered)/Ruth Etting (Judy Garland's versions covered) is a mash-up featured in Duets, the fourth episode of Season Two. It is sung by Kurt and Rachel.

Rachel notices that Kurt has been feeling lonely and offers to sing the duet with him "for fun" claiming that they are more alike than they had originally thought. They wear outfits in the same style that Judy Garland and Barbra Streisand wore. This is the last scene and song of this episode.

It is a counterpoint duet of Judy Garland's Get Happy from the film Summer Stock and Barbra Streisand's version of Happy Days Are Here Again.

Lyrics[]

Kurt (Rachel):
Forget your troubles (Happy days)
Come on, get happy (Are here again)
You better chase all your cares away (The skies above are clear again)
Shout hallelujah (So let's sing a song)
Come on, get happy (Of cheer again)
Get ready for the judgement day (Happy days are here again)
The sun is shining
Come on get happy (Shout it now)
The lord is waiting to take your hand (There is no one who can doubt it now)
Shout hallelujah (So lets tell the world)
And just get happy (About it now)
We are going to the promise land (Happy days are here again)
We're heading across the river
Soon your cares will all be gone

Rachel:
There'll be no more from now on

Kurt and Rachel:
From now on

Kurt (Rachel):
Forget your troubles (Oh, happy days)
And just get happy (Are here again)
You better chase all your blues away (The skies above are clear again)
Shout hallelujah (So lets sing a song)
And just get happy (Of cheer again)

Rachel (Kurt):
Happy times (Happy times)
Happy nights (Happy nights)

Kurt and Rachel:
Happy days are here again

Trivia[]

  • This is the second time Kurt sings religious lines despite being an atheist, the first being One of Us.
  • During this performance, Rachel is wearing a sailor-esque shirt, similar to what Barbra Streisand wore in the original video.
  • Chris and Lea sung this in the Glee! Live Concert.
  • Barbra Streisand re-recorded the song Happy Days Are Here Again in January 1963 for her solo album debut The Barbra Streisand Album. Streisand sang this song on The Judy Garland Show with Garland's counter-melody of Get Happy (Garland suggested the arrangement to her band leader Mel Tormé). This live performance was included on the 2002 Streisand compilation album Duets.
  • This is the first of the five songs by Barbra Streisand sung on the show, the others being One Less Bell to Answer/A House Is Not a Home, Being Good Isn't Good Enough, Make No Mistake (She's Mine), and What Kind of Fool.
