    Formatting

How do I format text in comments?

For example, no new line spacing, bullet points, & bold.

It's in the house rules link, above the comment box:

      You can use basic HTML to format your text - once you have had five posts accepted for publication. Currently we allow: < b >, < strong >, < em >, < i > and < span class="strike" >stricken< /span > (< strike > was dropped in HTML5). Badge holders can also use < sub >, < sup >, < ul >, < li >, < blockquote >, < code >, and < pre >.

I'll belatedly add, since this post is the first result that came up on Bing (*spit*) when I searched for this kind of thing, that the < span class="strike" > is now replaced by a simple < s >.

Also, the < q > tag seems to have been added, and I don't even know what that is. Maybe shorthand for < blockquote >? Let's find out. No, it enclosed it in quotation marks. Curly ones, by the looks of things, and probably semantically helpful for those using screenreaders and similar. Nice.

          <q>testing 123</q>

          <blockquote>testing 456</blockquote>

OK these aren't working, why not? I've posted more than five comments. I think.
