Rude is a blunt and stern man of few words, who executes his missions professionally. Despite his intimidating appearance, he is compassionate and cares deeply for his companions.

Rude is the physically strongest of the Turks, preferring to fight with his fists. He is fought as a boss in Final Fantasy VII, the training mode in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-, Final Fantasy VII Remake, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

History[]

Before Final Fantasy VII[]

Rude was born in 1977 and eventually joined the Turks.[1] Like every rookie, his first mission involved patrolling Sector 8 in Midgar.[2] At some point during his career, Rude met his longtime companion, Reno.[3]

Avalanche Insurgency and Genesis War[]

BeforeCrisisRenoRude

Rude and Reno usually acted as a team.

Rude and Reno were dispatched worldwide to recruit SOLDIER candidates during "Proof of a Scar Filled Existence" in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-. They found and detained many candidates in Costa del Sol, including Azul, who Rude suppressed after he knocked out the other prisoners. Avalanche operatives led by Shears attacked, freeing the prisoners and knocking out Rude. Rude and Reno ultimately forced their retreat, rounded up the prisoners, defeated Shears, and returned to Midgar.[4]

Rude in Sector 8 from Crisis Core Reunion

Rude defended Sector 8 during Genesis's attack.

Rude and Reno investigated Hollander's theft of classified Shinra documents and the mass SOLDIER desertions in "Special Episode: Reno". During Chapter 3 of Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, the pair defended Sector 8 alongside Tseng and Cissnei during Genesis Rhapsodos's assault on Midgar. Rude reassured Zack Fair not to worry about Cissnei and mentioned that SOLDIER was struggling to protect the city. Tseng then directed Rude and Reno to the station, where they were hindered by Genesis copies, allowing Hollander to escape.[5][6]

Rude declined Reno's invitations to go out because he was secretly dating Chelsea during This Night in an Untainted World" in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-. Reno later discovered she was an Avalanche spy with doubts and genuine feelings for Rude and saved her from angry operatives. When Reno and another Turk revealed the truth to Rude, he was briefly saddened but found comfort in his colleagues' support.[7]

After Verdot's demotion, Rude, Reno, and Tseng anxiously awaited news about the new leader of the Turks in "One Step Further Toward Uncertainty". Heidegger took command and sent them to scout Junon for Avalanche activity, prohibiting them from intervening if an attack occurred. When Avalanche raided the city, Rude and his comrades struggled to repel their overwhelming forces, frustrated by Heidegger's haphazard directions. The Turks eventually received sudden orders from Verdot, renewing their hope and leading them to victory.[8]

Rude and Reno rescued survivors of the Nibelheim Incident, including Zack and Cloud Strife, during "The Scar that Sunders the Calm". They brought them to the Shinra Manor for Professor Hojo's experiments, feeling indecisive about the morality of their orders.[9]

The Turks discovered that Avalanche had returned and was occupying the unfinished Corel Reactor in "The Muddy Course of Inexorable Fate". Rude accompanied Reno and Tseng to reclaim the reactor, where they encountered Verdot and Rufus Shinra, who was revealed to be the Shinra informant and Avalanche's leader. Avalanche operatives led by Fuhito ambushed them, prompting the Turks to protect Rufus and escort him to safety. They escaped before the reactor exploded and encouraged Verdot to go after his daughter, Elfe.[10] During "An Eruption of Fanged Chaos", Rude and Reno rescued a colleague trapped in the bombed reactor and Rufus was placed under house arrest at their headquarters.[11]

Reno and Rude search for Zack and Cloud from Crisis Core Reunion

Rude and Reno searched for Zack and Cloud.

The Turks were tasked with rebuilding Nibelheim and covering up evidence of the incident in Last Order -Final Fantasy VII-. Rude later helped his colleagues search for Hojo's escaped test subjects, Zack and Cloud.[12] During Chapter 10 of Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, Rude and Reno assisted Tseng in a plan to rescue Zack before the Shinra army executed him. They scouted the wasteland by helicopter, Rude reminded a doubting Reno of their orders, they reported no findings to Cissnei, and relocated. Despite their efforts, Zack was killed.[13]

Rude, Reno, and Tseng attempted to locate where Verdot was imprisoned before his planned execution during "The Threat that Pierces the Heavens" in Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-. They headed to Midgar's garbage disposal site after Rufus provided a surveillance feed of Verdot's cell. The three battled security mechas, but were soon overwhelmed. After Tseng defeated them and helped up Rude and Reno, they rescued Verdot. Rude and his companions escaped the city to meet with Shears, but found a truck with an unwell Elfe and were surrounded by Shinra troops. President Shinra was willing to spare the Turks if they killed Verdot and Elfe. Rude and Reno watched in horror as Tseng shot them.[14] A devastated Rude and Reno were left behind as Tseng returned to Midgar with Verdot and Elfe's bodies in "The Concerto: Played Out to its Straining Point". The pair watched helplessly from afar as the other Turks explosively destroyed Zirconiade and worried for their comrades.[15]

During the first epilogue of Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-, President Shinra summoned Tseng and held an inquiry meeting about the Turks' punishment. Scarlet proposed disbandment and execution, but Rufus arrived with Rude and Reno, vouching for them in exchange for their loyalty and keeping the survival of Verdot and Elfe a secret. The Turks then returned to work after hearing reports of an emergency at Mako Reactor 1.[16]

Jenova War[]

Rude enemyFFVII

Rude's battle model from Final Fantasy VII.

Rude assisted Tseng in trapping and apprehending Cloud's party after they confronted President Shinra during "Storming the Shinra Building" in Final Fantasy VII.[17] Following the president's death, Rufus took over and ordered the Turks to track down Sephiroth and locate Jenova, pairing Rude with Elena while Reno recovered from his injuries. When they encountered Cloud's party in the Mythril Mine during "Going After Sephiroth", Rude struggled to explain their mission until Elena intervened and Tseng appeared. Rude mentioned that Reno wanted a rematch before leaving.[18] Rude later arrived in Junon for Rufus's inauguration in "The Stowaway Strategy", relaxed at a bar for bald men, and invited a disguised Cloud to take off his helmet and join them.[19]

Rude traveled to Gongaga with Reno and Elena during "Gongaga, the Village of Sadness", where they kept watch as Tseng and Scarlet searched the ruined reactor for huge materia. He gossiped with Reno about who they liked and admitted he had a crush on Tifa Lockhart. Rude and Reno soon faced Cloud's party, desiring payback for Sector 7.[20]

Rude vacationed in Wutai with Reno and Elena during "Homecoming of a Miserable Daughter", tasked with finding Don Corneo, who had divulged Shinra's plans to drop Sector 7 to Cloud's party in Midgar. Rude drank with Reno, neglecting their orders and Cloud's party, causing Elena to storm off. Rude and Reno later cooperated with Cloud's party to rescue a kidnapped Elena and Yuffie Kisaragi from Corneo. After the pair knocked Corneo off the Da-chao Statue, they ignored Tseng's new orders to pursue Cloud's party.[21] When the Turks were stranded at the Gold Saucer due to a ropeway malfunction in "Secret Date", Rude admired the night sky and longed to share the view with someone special.[3][22]

After Sephiroth summoned Meteor, Rude and Reno recovered weapons and materia from the sunken Relnikha during "Clash in the Deep Sea", but were defeated in battle by Cloud's party.[23] Rude later guarded the Shinra No. 26 rocket in Rocket Town during "Toward the Sea of Stars", but failed to prevent Cloud's party from boarding and taking the huge materia.[24] Rude and his comrades returned to Midgar in "Mako Cannon Rampage", determined to stop Cloud's party and avenge Tseng. The Turks confronted them in Corkscrew Tunnel on their way to the Sister Ray.[25]

TurksMeteorfall2

Rude and his colleagues evacuated Midgar.

Rude and Reno rescued Rufus from the ruins of the upper Shinra Building and had him extracted by a medical team in "Episode Shinra" of Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile. Tseng later directed the Turks to evacuate Midgar from Meteor's threat. During the second epilogue of Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-, Rude led evacuations in Sector 2 before regrouping with the rest of the Turks and Verdot to continue their efforts in Sector 5. After the evacuations, Rude and Reno returned to Midgar to retrieve a toolbox in "Episode Shinra" of Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile, bantering and reflecting on their partnership while taking shelter from the erupting lifestream in a Shinra Building restroom.[16][26]

Post-Meteor[]

Rufus summoned the Turks to Kalm and asked about their future plans during "Episode Shinra" in Final Fantasy VII: On the Way to a Smile. Rude and his companions agreed to continue serving Shinra. Rufus then sent Rude and Reno to gather allies in Midgar. They closed Shinra, posted evacuation directions, and returned to Kalm. Upon their return, Rude and Reno found their safehouse occupied by sick people and noticed Rufus was missing but were unable to find him.[26]

The Turks relocated to a new base in Sector 5 and discovered a rebuilding effort led by Mütten Kylegate. A concerned Rude emphasized rationing fuel to volunteering civilians and changed Shinra warehouse passkeys with Reno, and later Tseng and Elena. The next morning, Verdot informed them of Kylegate's plans and that he was holding Rufus at a mansion in Kalm. They rushed to Kalm and witnessed Kylegate's mansion on fire, but found no signs of Rufus, who was captured by Kilmister.[26]

Rude and Reno were on lookout duty at the Shinra Building when Kilmister arrived with a note from Rufus, granting access to Shinra equipment and the use of SOLDIER stimulants. After Tseng confirmed the note's authenticity, the Turks complied with Kilmister's demands until he led them to Rufus, saving him from a flooded cave and and relocating to Cliff Resort. During a friendly sparring, Rude and Reno discussed concerns about the disease and Tseng's kindness toward Kilmister, lifting each others' spirits. The Turks eventually learned that the sickness, Geostigma, was connected to Jenova and Sephiroth, and fatal if the afflicted lost hope before Kilmister was murdered. Rude and Reno repainted the resort's sign to read "Healen Lodge" and questioned Rufus about the name change, to which he explained it symbolized healing the world.[26]

Rebuilding Shinra[]

LBT - Reno and Rude

Rude and Reno stayed partners after Shinra's fall.

Two years later, in Final Fantasy VII The Kids Are Alright: A Turks Side Story, Rude and Reno were still serving Rufus at Healen Lodge. They tracked down Fabio Braun, who had stolen Geostigma medicine. Mistaking Evan Townshend for Fabio, they raided Evan's home in Sector 6, roughed him up, and apologized before leaving. Kyrie Canaan later sought help from Rude and Reno when Evan collapsed outside Mireille Detective Agency. Deciding to bring them to Healen Lodge, Rude prevented their escape and led them to the truck, napping until Reno woke him to send a message to Rufus. Kyrie compared their capture to how the Turks treated Aerith and showed them a photo of a SOLDIER named Goulde Aarde, which Rude and Reno recognized as taken in Nibelheim. When Fabio, Doyle, and Keough attacked the lodge to rescue Thropp, who was being interrogated, Rude defended the entrance. Evan then bargained with the Turks by threatening Rufus's life, forcing them to let the group go. Afterward, Rufus instructed Rude and Reno to assess the lab's condition.[27]

Rude and Reno worked on the monument in Edge, fixed Evan's truck, and discussed feeling like outcasts due to Rufus and Evan being brothers and Tseng and Elena being unreachable. While waiting with Kyrie by Evan's truck, they noticed she was scared of them, reminding them of Aerith. Rude was later sent by Tseng to repair a helicopter in Midgar, Reno tagged along, and the duo were given new orders to find Jenova. When Reno returned to Edge, Rude survived a failed attack by Fabio and Keough, called Reno, and reported their deaths. Rude and Reno then followed Evan and Kyrie's truck by helicopter, discussing Fabio and Keough's plans to steal the chopper and help Evan, believing he was being targeted by Shinra.[27]

Rude and Reno eventually located Evan and brought him to Junon. After Tseng decided to involve Evan and Kyrie in their search for Jenova and Reno suggested taking Evan to Nibelheim to look for his mother, Rude and Reno were assigned to take over Tseng and Elena's duties in Junon while waiting for updates from their old comrades. They grew bored and soon encountered Doyle and Leslie Kyle, who were searching for Evan. Rude glared at Leslie, suspecting he was violent before agreeing to search for Evan. They flew to Nibelheim, where they were treated coldly when inquiring about Evan and the others. Rude and Reno then attempted to contact Tseng and Elena to no avail.[27]

Elena eventually contacted Rude and Reno, informing them that she and Tseng were at Icicle Inn. When Rude and Reno arrived, they assisted in battling Kadaj, who set the town on fire. They hesitated to follow Tseng's order to open fire after spotting Evan and Kyrie below, as Rude had grown fond of Kyrie and Reno of Evan. Kadaj stabbed their helicopter, forcing Rude to throw Doyle and Leslie out and attempt evasive maneuvers. Kadaj warped inside the chopper, prompting Rude and Reno to jump out just as Tseng fired a missile. Reno stayed behind with Doyle and Leslie while Rude went to Healen Lodge to get another helicopter. He later picked up the group and returned to Edge, found the monument finished, thanked the volunteers, and said goodbye to Evan and Kyrie.[27]

Geostigma crisis[]

Turks in ACC

The Turks fought the Remnants of Sephiroth.

During Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, Rude and Reno provided air support above the North Crater while Tseng and Elena retrieved the remains of Jenova's head, but were forced to retreat when the Remnants of Sephiroth ambushed them. Rude and Reno brought the head to Rufus at the Healen Lodge. Rude prepared to fight Cloud and stood by Rufus, annoyed by Cloud's refusal to help defeat the Remnants. Reno and Rude later discussed the other Turks' return, the missing Tseng and Elena, and Shinra's need to atone for almost destroying the planet before Kadaj attacked the lodge and defeated them.[28]

Rude and Reno traveled to Midgar, rescued an unconscious Tifa and Cloud from the Sector 5 slums church, and brought them to 7th Heaven in Edge. They searched for the missing children living with Cloud and Tifa, discovering the Remnants took them to the Forgotten Capital. They later battled Loz and Yazoo at the Edge monument, witnessed Kadaj summon Bahamut SIN, and rescued some children while they ran away. Their battle resumed, with Rude fighting Loz and Reno fighting Yazoo. Both witnessed Tseng and Elena rescue Rufus from falling off a building during a fight with Kadaj.[28]

Rude and Reno later pursued the Remnants chasing Cloud on the Midgar Expressway and survived a helicopter crash caused by Yazoo. Tseng and Elena picked them up and air-dropped them ahead, allowing them to set bombs, and detonate them as the Remnants passed by. After the Remnants were defeated, Rude and his companions witnessed Aerith's healing rain cure Rufus of Geostigma.[28]

Remake continuity[]

Midgar operations[]

Rude in the Sector 5 slums from FFVII Remake

Rude intercepted Cloud and Aerith in the Sector 5 slums.

Rude and his troops arrived in the Sector 5 slums to capture Aerith during "Budding Bodyguard" in Final Fantasy VII Remake. He encountered Cloud and Aerith on Petal Lane, realizing Cloud had beaten up Reno. Despite Aerith's pleas, Rude and Cloud fought until Reno called Rude about a job related to Sector 7. Before leaving by helicopter, Rude advised Aerith to stay home, but she mockingly declined, leaving him flustered.[29]

Reno and Rude atop the Sector 7 pillar from FFVII Remake

Rude and Reno battled Cloud's party atop the Sector 7 pillar.

Rude and Reno headed for the Sector 7 slums under orders to drop the plate and eliminate Avalanche in "Haunted". After reminding an uneasy Reno of their orders and receiving the separation code from Tseng, they opened fire on the local militia defending the pillar. Their aerial assault continued during "Fight for Survival". Rude fired at Cloud but veered away when Tifa joined, claiming his "hand slipped". While Reno battled Cloud's party atop the pillar, Rude provided air support until Barret Wallace shot him down. A dejected Reno retrieved his partner's broken sunglasses, but Rude soon emerged from the wreckage, put on a new pair, and joined the fight. After being defeated, the Whispers intervened, allowing Rude to reluctantly subdue Tifa, input the separation code, rescue an unconscious Reno, and escape via medical helicopter.[30]

Turks Office in the Shinra Building from FFVII Remake

The Turks meet following Sector 7's destruction.

Rude was in the Turks' office with Tseng and an injured Reno during "The Belly of the Beast". While he and Reno grappled with guilt over Sector 7, Rude questioned the need to drop the plate and disagreed with Tseng coldly justifying their actions. Rufus then called and requested their help.[31] Rude and Reno escorted Rufus to the Shinra Building by helicopter in "Deliverance from Chaos", shot down a rescue chopper for Cloud's party, defended the building from Avalanche's attack, and flew Rufus to safety after his duel with Cloud.[32] After repelling Avalanche, during "Destiny's Crossroads", Rude and Reno were on standby for further orders and Rufus had them brought in.[33]

Pursuit of Sephiroth[]

Elena and Rude in Mythril Mine from FVII Rebirth
Rude and the Ballad of the Bald from FFVII Rebirth

Rude faced Cloud's party with Elena in the Mythril Mine and later relaxed at a bar for bald people in Junon.

Rude, paired with Elena while Reno was on leave due to injuries, was tasked by Rufus to track the black-robed figures and locate Sephiroth. They navigated through the Mythril Mine towards Junon and encountered Cloud's party during "Deeper into Darkness" in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. During the fight, Rude kept Elena focused and apologized to Aerith until Tseng arrived to cover their escape.[34] Upon arriving in Junon for Rufus's inauguration in "Dawn of a New Era", Rude went to a club for bald people. When a disguised Cloud, Tifa, and Aerith entered, he insisted they remove their helmets if they wanted to join them, reminded them of the club's rules, and wished them luck with the inauguration parade.[35]

Rude and troops in Corel Desert from FVII Rebirth

Rude tracked Cloud's party through the Corel Desert.

Rude and Elena picked up robed figures in Corel via helicopter but later released them for being unruly during "Those Left Behind". Rude watched as Elena confronted Cloud's party and unleashed the Custom Valkyrie, adjusting his shades before they flew off. Rude and Elena picked up Palmer and brought him to the Gold Saucer to distribute Avalanche wanted posters in "All That Glitters". Rude attempted to check into their Haunted Hotel rooms, unfazed by the concierge's jump scare, but found their reservations canceled. Following the Battle Square shooting, he protected Palmer during the chocobo races, offered to bring Elena ice cream after she complained about the heat, and missed Reno. Rude and Elena later pursued Dyne and Cloud's party after Solemn Gus revealed their location, deployed the Anuran Suppressor despite doubts about Palmer's piloting, and ordered his troops to withdraw. After the mecha was heavily damaged and Palmer accidentally shot down their chopper, Rude and his troops advanced on Cloud's party but he was held off by Dio.[36]

Rude was featured in virtual combat training simulations at various Turks training facilities in Gongaga during "The Planet Stirs".[37] Rude returned to the Gold Saucer with Elena, Tseng, and Rufus to obtain the keystone for the Temple of the Ancients in "A Golden Key". After Cloud's party won the keystone, Rude and Elena intercepted it and eventually handed it to Cait Sith. They then tussled with Cloud's party in a grudge match officiated by Dio. After their defeat, Rufus entered the arena, instructing Rude and Elena to wait with Tseng. Rude and his colleagues left the Gold Saucer once Cait Sith gave them the keystone.[38]

Rude and his comrades regrouped in Junon before heading to the Temple of the Ancients during "Where Angels Fear to Tread". Rude reassured a worried Elena, stating Rufus would be with them, and later accompanied Tseng as he inserted the keystone into an altar causing the temple to appear. While traversing the temple, he agreed with Elena about the temple's dangers, shushed her, and was glad to be reunited with Reno when Tseng split everyone into teams.[39]

Reno and Rude in the Temple of the Ancients from FFVII Rebirth

Rude and Reno prepared to fight Cloud's party in the Temple of the Ancients.

Rude and Reno investigated the temple's mysteries, encountered Cloud's party, tauntingly hindered their progress with a bomb, and promised to fight them later. They pair later briefly teamed up with Cloud's party against monsters. When Rude saved Tifa from an ambush, Reno teased them about getting a room. Rude and Reno then battled Cloud, Tifa, and Barret until the floor collapsed and both parties fell. Rude watched in shock as Cloud tried to kill Elena. The Turks were later rescued by Vincent Valentine and helped a badly wounded Tseng out of the crumbling temple.[39] Afterward, Rude piloted the Turks' helicopter back to Midgar in "End of the World".[40]

Characteristics[]

Appearance[]

Rude is a tall man with a toned figure, tan skin, a shaved head, hazel eyes, and a goatee, though he was clean-shaven when younger. He wears the standard Turks uniform, consisting of a dark blue or black suit, black tie, white dress shirt, black gloves, and black dress shoes in Final Fantasy VII and other entries in the Compilation of Final Fantasy VII.

In the Final Fantasy VII remake project, Rude's attire is updated with a black tie featuring silver patterns, a dark purple dress shirt, a dark purple pocket square, black leather gloves, and silver-studded dress boots. His accessories include three silver rings on his left ear and a silver ring with a sapphire stud on his right ear. In all appearances, Rude wears sunglasses and keeps spare pairs handy.

Personality[]

No, I'm not bad. But like it or not... I sometimes have to do bad things. Don't take it personal.

Rude is a blunt man of few words, only speaking when necessary. He is sensible and prefers to think before taking action. Rude is hard-working and loyal to Shinra, faithfully and professionally executing his assignments. Despite his stern and intimidating demeanor, Rude is deeply compassionate and cares about his companions above everything,[1] finding it painful to imagine life without the Turks.[26]

Though dedicated to his duties as Turk, Rude often feels guilty about their more nefarious missions and admits to sometimes having to do bad things.[31][note 1] Rude is a hopeless romantic and has a secret crush on Tifa.[16][3] He respects women and refuses to harm them in combat, instead taking defensive action if attacked.[3][1][note 2]

FF7AC Rude & Reno

Rude and Reno are best friends and partners.

Rude is best friends with his longtime contrasting partner, Reno.[3] The pair care deeply for each other, getting along well and working as a team in perfect sync.[41][28][3][1] [note 3] They always spend time together, partaking in social activities and training together.[20][21][26][27] Rude and Reno rarely express their feelings, but confide in each other.[16][26]

Rude respects his leader, Tseng, and was happy when he returned alive after his apparent death in the Temple of the Ancients. However, he sometimes disagrees with his cold tact and feels distant.[26][31] Rude also cares for Elena. He keeps her focused during missions and reassures her worries, but gets annoyed by her complaining.[34][36][39] Rude is friends with Cissnei and helped her regain a sense of trust.[42] He is a faithful retainer to Rufus, alongside Reno, always listening to his orders and protecting him.[28]

Abilities[]

Rude is considered an elite operative in the Turks.[27] He is a strong combatant, preferring to use his bare fists in a fighting style that complements his large build.[1] Rude is a skilled pilot with impressive and accurate marksmanship.[43][30][32][44][36] He is a competent mechanic and knows how to repair helicopters and vehicles.[27][28]

Gameplay[]

Final Fantasy VII[]

Rude can be fought four times, but only battle is set. The rare Ziedrich armor can be stolen from Rude during the later encounters.

Final Fantasy VII remake project[]

Final Fantasy VII Remake[]

Rude is fought twice, once in the Sector 5 Slums near Aerith's house in chapter 8, "Budding Bodyguard", and again at the Sector 7 Slums tower, alongside Reno, in chapter 12, "Fight for Survival". In the first fight, he will avoid attacking Aerith directly, and will try to instead incapacitate her while doing minimal damage; in the second fight, he will do the same to Tifa. Like in the original, the player can steal an armor piece from him.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth[]

Rude is fought three more times, the first two battles being alongside Elena and the third battle being alongside Reno once more.

Before Crisis -Final Fantasy VII-[]

Rude is fought in the Training Mode.

Musical themes[]

Rude does not have a character theme in the original Final Fantasy VII. In Final Fantasy VII Remake, Rude has two music pieces associated with him. Rude's boss battle theme, named "The Turks: Rude", borrows elements from the "Turks' Theme" and "The Turks: Reno", and plays during his fight with Cloud. Another musical piece, named "Rude Arrives", plays during the cutscene where he lands in the Sector 5 slums. Both pieces are on the Final Fantasy VII Remake Original Soundtrack Plus.

Other appearances[]

Guest appearances[]

Rude appears in the following Final Fantasy media:

Though Rude appears in Crisis Core -Final Fantasy VII-, he is not fought as a boss, and cannot be spoken to. Reno does appear in a few of Tseng and Cissnei's Digital Mind Wave flashbacks.

Merchandise[]

Rude was released as a Play Arts figure.

Behind the scenes[]

Rude-FFVIIAC

Rude in Advent Children.

During the making of Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children, the animators noted Rude was the easiest character to animate due to his baldness and minimal facial expressions resulting from Rude's sunglasses and character, although the animators did animate his eyes behind the sunglasses in case fans caught a glimpse of them in some scenes.[citation needed]

Because Rude avoided harming Tifa during battles in Final Fantasy VII, it was decided that he wouldn't actively attack any women in Final Fantasy VII Remake—neither Aerith nor Tifa. Because battles wouldn't work if he didn't attack the two at all, he was made less aggressive, putting them to sleep instead of attacking them.[45] If the player casts Sleep Sleep on Rude, he mutters Reno's name in his sleep. In Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, Cloud, Tifa and Barret briefly team up to take on a group of enemies in the Temple of the Ancients. In a cutscene afterwards, Rude fends off a frog that was coming at Tifa. She thanks him and Reno tells them to "get a room."

Voice[]

Rude is voiced by Taiten Kusunoki in every Japanese release of the Final Fantasy VII series. He is voiced by Crispin Freeman in the English releases of Compilation of Final Fantasy VII entries and William Christopher Stevens in the Final Fantasy VII remake project.
