Universal Pictures (also known as Universal Studios) is an American film studio founded in 1912. It was owned by NBCUniversal, a division of Comcast.
TBD
Since 1997, Universal was the home video distributor for DreamWorks Pictures titles until DreamWorks moved made a film/video distribution deal with Paramount Pictures in 2006.
After Paramount finished its deal with DreamWorks Studios in 2008 (despite DreamWorks' animated films continued to be distributed by Paramount until 2012), Universal was planned to resume distributing DreamWorks' films, but this deal fell through as Disney took over the distribution for DreamWorks' mature films under the Touchstone Pictures banner starting from 2011 to 2016, and 20th Century Fox took over the distribution for DreamWorks' family films from 2013 to 2017. In April 2016, Comcast purchased DreamWorks Studios for $3.8 Billion. It is therefore likely that when the current distribution deals with Disney and 20th Century Fox finished, DreamWorks' films will be distributed by Universal. DreamWorks' first films distributed by Universal were TBD.
While Universal owns DreamWorks' pre-1997 library alongside with most of its pre-2017 animated library, most of its 1997-2017 live-action library are current owned by Paramount (1997-2008 library) and Disney (2009-2017 library).
