"Truth" is the fifth episode of the Disney+ streaming television series, The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and was released on April 16, 2021.
Synopsis[]
John Walker faces consequences for his actions, and Sam and Bucky return to the U.S.
Plot[]
Walker flees from killing Nico, but Sam and Bucky confront him. They fight, resulting in Walker getting defeated and Sam and Bucky reclaiming the shield, though in the process, Sam's wings are destroyed. Karli finds that the camp in Riga was raided by the GRC and vows revenge. The heroes regroup with Torres telling them that Walker will get a judicial punishment while Karli had successfully escaped and his most likely recruiting more followers to her side. With not much else to do, Sam and Bucky decide to head home with Torres left with the remains of Sam's wings.
Walker is stripped of the Captain America title and discharged without benefits. After the hearing, he is confronted by Contessa Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, or Val for short, who commends him for his decision and tells him that she will be in touch. Bucky goes and confronts Zemo at the memorial in Sokovia, expecting to be killed by him. However, Bucky instead turns him over to the Wakandans to face punishment. Ayo tells him that they will send him to the Raft and Bucky asks for a favor from her in return for keeping his end of their agreement.
Sam returns to Baltimore to meet Isaiah who finally tells his whole story. He and his fellow African-American soldiers were given different serums with him being the only success. When the government tried to "get rid of the evidence", he tried to rescue his men, but it did not matter as they succumbed to the negative effects anyway. He was in prison for 30 years and experimented on, unable to see his wife. A sympathetic nurse, gave him letters that were sent to him and had him legally declared dead. He learned that his wife died and tells Sam that America would never accept a black Captain America.
Sam returns to Louisiana and learns that Sarah could not sell the boat and calls in favors to help fix it up. Bucky arrives as well and learns that Torres is searching for Karli's whereabouts. As Walker meets with Hoskins' family, Sharon calls Batroc to offer him a job. Bucky admits that when Sam gave up the shield, it was like he was losing a part of his family. Sam in turn tells him that he needs to stop apologizing and instead find closure. He promises Bucky to call him once they find Karli and begins to train with the shield.
As Karli gathers more followers, she is joined by Batroc who brings weapons with him to help with her movement, but also so that he can get revenge on Sam for previously ruining his last heist. They plan to raid and attack the GRC meeting that is trying to pass the Patch Act, a controversial bill, which will force millions of refugees back home. Torres manages to catch on to the Flag-Smashers' location just as the raid begins to take place and informs Sam. Sam finally looks into a suitcase that Bucky left with him and marvels at the contents.
In a mid-credits scene, Walker is in a garage creating a new shield, using his army decorations.

Trivia[]
- Sam and Bucky's fight against John Walker parallels Steve and Bucky's fight against Tony Stark in Captain America: Civil War. John also almost slams his shield into Sam, almost killing him, like Steve almost did to Tony in Civil War.
- John almost kills Sam with the shield like he killed Nico in the previous episode.
- John Walker working on his own shield in the post-credits scene parallels Tony Stark building his own armor in the very first Iron Man film.
- The Raft is mentioned for the first time since it appeared in Captain America: Civil War.
- It's revealed that Bucky was aware of Steve's plan to go back to the '40s and retire and give Sam the shield, in Avengers: Endgame, which explains why Bucky was okay with Sam going to speak with an elderly Steve Rogers and be given the shield.
- Julia Louis-Dreyfus' role in the series was a complete mystery and was not revealed until the episode aired. Her character was supposed to appear in Black Widow first before COVID forced the dates to switch around.
- The opening scene shows John Walker running, paralleling Sam and Steve Rogers' run at the very beginning of Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
- After Bucky drops the shield, the music that is played is the same one from Winter Soldier when Steve dropped the shield to show his friendship for Bucky when he refused to fight him.
