The Razor Crest is a ship that appears in the first two seasons of the Disney+ Star Wars series The Mandalorian. It is a former military craft used to patrol local territories, and serves as the trusty transport and living quarters for the Mandalorian Din Djarin and Grogu, as they travel from world to world, staying out of reach of the Imperial Remnant.
Background[]
Prior to the rise of the Galactic Empire, the Razor Crest served as a military patrol craft. The vessel eventually fell into the hands of Din Djarin, who lived and worked from it as he hunted bounties in the Outer Rim Territories in the early years of the New Republic. He used it throughout the search for the child named Grogu, and continued to use it until it was destroyed by Gideon's light cruiser during a skirmish on Tython.
The starship has two laser cannons located at the front, two engines, and a hyperdrive. It can be piloted by one individual and has room for two others. It also contains an astromech interface socket, however due to Din Djarin's distrust of droids, it remained unused. A variety of equipment in the cargo hold includes a vacc tube, a weapons locker, and a carbonite freezing chamber. According to Djarin, one could initiate "ground security protocols" from inside the ship, providing a high degree of protection.
Behind the scenes[]
The Razor Crest was conceived by Jon Favreau, and was designed by veteran concept artist Ryan Church. Favreau based the design of the craft on his favorite plane, the A-10 Thunderbolt 'Warthog'. Designers also drew inspiration from World War II plane aesthetic, military style aircrafts, and derelict planes see in airport graveyards. Both physical and computer-generated models were created for the series.
