"Lost in Newtopia" is the first segment of the twenty-eighth episode of Amphibia. It aired on August 29, 2020.

Synopsis[]

Anne and Polly vow to experience the city like locals but end up on a wild ride through the streets of Newtopia.

Plot[]

As the robot watches from afar, Anne and the Plantars are on a bus tour through the inner streets of Newtopia. The tour guide insists that they stay on the bus, lest they accidentally disturb the locals. Anne, growing increasingly bored, decides she wants to get off so that she can enjoy the sights, having had a history of being refused by her mother to enjoy local food. She convinces Polly to join her and she agrees. They tell Hop Pop that they are not feeling well and need to head back to the hotel. Sprig plans to go, but Hop Pop had handcuffed him as he does not want a repeat of the Ruins of Despair. He tells Anne and Polly that they must go straight to the hotel. As Anne and Polly get off the bus they head straight into the streets and declare that they are "Puh-Anne" and will take in the sites as if they were locals instead of tourists.

Anne locates a food vendor selling spicy burritos. She purchases two, but the spiciness is enough for Anne to rush to the biggest bowl of water and cause Polly to blast fire out of her mouth. The vendor gets annoyed that they destroyed his stand and can only take cash, forcing the two to flee. Next, they head to a tail store to get tails. Anne buys an obnoxiously large tail while Polly gets a spiky hard tail. As they leave, they accidentally knock people down with their ligaments which gets the attention of a couple of guards who chase them, but then get lazy and stop. Anne and Polly end up at a parade, but Anne accidentally insults the focus of the festivities and destroys a paper dragon causing everyone to chase her and Polly away.

Anne and Polly eventually catch up with the bus with everyone in town in pursuit of them. As Anne gets dragged away by the crowd, Polly eats another spicy burrito and blasts fire at them. Anne and Polly continue with Sprig and Hop Pop with the tour to the cheese museum. Meanwhile, back at the castle, Marcy and King Andrias do not appear to be anywhere closer to discovering the secret of the music box. Marcy accidentally spills coffee on a tapestry, but discovers a button that opens a secret passage, which Andrias himself appears to have also been unaware of. The two of them cautiously go down as it leads to another library.

Moral: If you're trying to be "authentic" when visiting a new place, you should also be respectful of local culture and customs, and you should do some research instead of flying blind.
This is the first physical appearance of Anne's mother.
Anne is revealed to be from California.
Anne confirms that she is of Thai descent.
Hop Pop mentions the events of "Fort in the Road".
- The robot from that episode makes a reappearance since it was last seen in "Anne Hunter".
This episode is the sequel to "Girl Time".
- The similarity between it is:
  - It focuses on Anne and Polly.
  - Anne and Polly continue their hijinx like in Wartwood.
  - The citizens of Newtopia try to attack Anne like the citizens of Wartwood did when she sent them Hop Pop's I.O.U. cards.
  - Anne is forced to pay off the damages with cash only just like when her and the Plantars are forced to be jailed until they pay off their debt with cash only.
- The difference between it is:
  - This episode starts with Anne and Polly bored from traveling, while the the other episode starts with the Plantars practicing the spitting contest.
  - Anne and Polly destroy the food area of Newtopia which forces them to pay off the damages with cash only. But, in the other episode, Anne sends everyone in Wartwood, Hop Pop's I.O.U. cards which forces her and the Plantars to be jailed until they pay off their debt with cash only.
  - The attack from the citizens of Newtopia starts when Anne destroys the plastic dragon. But, in the other episode, the attack of the citizens of Wartwood starts when Anne sends them, Hop Pop's I.O.U. cards.
  - Near the end, the citizens of Newtopia get their comeuppance when Polly burps fire so loud, that scares them away. But at the end of the other episode, the citizens of Wartwood let the Plantars off the hook when Polly spits the farthest of 100 kilometers.

Anne and Polly refer to themselves as "Puh-Anne" and then later "An-Olly", a reference to how Anne and Sprig called themselves Spranne.
Tails-R-Us is a reference to the toy chain Toys-R-Us.
When Marcy enters the hidden passage in the library, King Andrias is briefly shown smiling at this, as if he got something planned.
