Henry serves as the minister of a church located in the town of Beulah in Maine. He is shown to have integrity to anyone whom he encounters, such as talking such as introducing Charles Bryant, the new teacher, to other people such as Margaret Carey. When Nancy and Julia approach him, Henry introduces Nancy and Julia Carey to Charles, serving as the new teacher of school.
Role in the film[]
Henry is first seen walking out of the church alongside Margaret Carey, introducing her to Charles Bryant, describing him as the new school teacher in the town of Beulah, just as Margaret happily greets him. As Henry is explaining to Margaret the details about Charles' duty as a school teacher, Nancy and her cousin Julia are commenting about Charles. Henry then continues to discuss with Charles that he needs to find new people, which Margret thinks Henry forgot what the town of Beulah gave to her family - a new life. Just as Nancy and Julia approach Henry, he introduces them to Charles, describing him as the new teacher at Beulah, which Henry presents the two girls to him. Nancy and Julia then plan to invite Charles to an afternoon picnic just as Henry notices the Careys' plan of inviting him for a picnic. He does not appear again afterwards.
Trivia[]
Henry's first name was not mentioned in the film, unlike in the original story where his name is mentioned. The character was only referred to as Mr. Lord in the film's dialogue.
Harry Holcombe, the actor who played Henry Lord, would later star in the 1965 Disney film The Monkey's Uncle as one of the regents, two years after Summer Magic was released. Both, The Monkey's Uncle and Summer Magic feature songs written by the Sherman Brothers.
Despite his small amount of screen time, Holcombe was credited in the starring cast in the opening credits of the film.
