Colonel Weber is a character featured in the 2023 film Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. He is a Nazi official in the Schutzstaffel who oversees the transfer of looted art and artifacts into Germany from occupied territories during World War II. He encounters the American archaeologist Indiana Jones in 1944, when Jones tries to stop him from obtaining a powerful relic called the Dial of Destiny.
Background[]
According to the film's plot summary, Colonel Weber is in charge of looting the antiquities from an old castle in France in 1944. The operation is disrupted by the Allied airplanes which are bombing the castle and the surrounding area. Another obstacle is the captured an American spy, Indiana Jones, who is trying to infiltrate the castle. Weber tries to interrogate him, but Jones simply states he is there because the Germans have plenty of nice stuff, specifying that it is other people's stuff. Weber then proclaims that to the victor belongs the spoils, but Jones replies that Berlin is rubble and Hitler is hiding, which means Germany is losing the war. Weber simply smiles and leaves Jones behind to be lynched by his soldiers.
Just as he is entering the castle's courtyard, Weber is stopped by his associate, Doctor Jürgen Voller. Together they open one of the crates the soldiers are carrying, finding what looks like the Spear of Longinus inside. Wanting to bring the legendary relic to Hitler as soon as possible, they load all the loot onto a train and depart.
During the journey through the French Alps, Weber's soldiers bring him another spy to interrogate, Basil Shaw. However, the interrogation is interrupted by Voller, who informs Weber that the Spear they found is fake, a modern reproduction of the original. Furious at the possibility of coming back to Hitler empty handed, Weber doesn't pay attention when Voller tells him that they have a much more powerful relic in their possession - the Dial of Destiny. Weber dismisses Voller's claims as rubbish.
Indiana Jones and Basil encounter Weber in 1944. In that moment an alarm is sounded in the remaining wagons. Indiana Jones has managed to escape death and boarded the train. As he is being chased through the train by Weber and his soldiers, Jones manages to free Shaw and they both climb on top of the train, trying to escape. A group of soldiers attempt to kill them with an anti aircraft gun mounted on a freight wagon but an Allied plane attacks the train and kills all the soldiers manning the gun.
Weber then decides to take matters into his own hands and confronts Jones and Shaw on top of the train. He engages in a fistfight with Jones while Shaw tries to disconnect their wagon from the rest of the train. Weber proves to be a formidable opponent for Jones, but he makes a fatal mistake when he tries to grab Jones' whip and use it against him. Jones manages to wrap his whip around Weber's neck and pull him off balance, causing him to fall off the train and into a ravine below.
