Barry Buns is the deuteragonist of the series Kiff. He's Kiff Chatterley's best friend who follows her on most of her adventures in the mountains with the rest of the animals that reside there, helping them alongside Kiff. Barry is also the son of Mary Buns, one of the younger brothers of Harry & Terri Buns, and of the older brothers of Kristophe Buns.
Background[]
Personality[]
As the press release states, Barry is "a sweet and mellow bunny".
In contrast to the energetic and adventurous Kiff, Barry is more composed and timid in nature, which means that he can sometimes find himself hesitant to proceed with the situations that Kiff drags him into. At the same time, these qualities also allow him to act as a voice of reason whenever Kiff gets in over her head.
Despite being more easily scared than Kiff, Barry manages to keep up with her on their many adventures, and on several occasions he has surprised his peers by displaying significant bravery and confidence. In "Leave a Little Juice", he reveals that he prefers direct communication, thereby shattering Kiff's image of him as a "delicate flower" incapable of taking criticism. In "Hat", he stuns his classmates on Bring a Thing Day with his confidence while demonstrating a hat, earning him the title of "Bring a Thing King".
Barry has also worked up the courage to overcome certain longstanding fears of his. In "Trevor's Rockin' Halloween Bash", he manages to get over his fear of spooky things and help Kiff re-imprison Scarm Scaremly. For much of the first season, Barry was unable to swim; in "Pool Party", Kiff gets Helen to place a spell on Barry so that Barry can swim at Candle's birthday party. He finally overcomes his fear of swimming in "Sun's Out, Buns Out" after learning that the source of his fear was a practical joke played on him when he was younger by Terri.
Physical appearance[]
Barry is a light blue bunny, with large circular eyes and small pupils, two long ears, a pink ovular-shaped nose, a buck tooth, and a small fluffy tail. He also has a circular patch of white fur on his stomach, as well as white pads on his paws.
Relationships[]
Kiff Chatterley[]
Barry and Kiff are best friends, and not only are they best friends, they're neighbours as well. They often go on adventures in Table Town ever since they first met at the playground 7 years ago when they used to be in Kindergarten.
Being best friends, Kiff and Barry are highly supportive of each other. Kiff is conscious of Barry's more sensitive nature and goes to great lengths not to frighten or upset him, while Barry tries to get over his fears as best as he can, as he knows that his timidness can hinder his adventures with Kiff. In "Trevor's Rockin' Halloween Bash", Scarm Scarmely temporarily grants Barry his wish to be as brave as Kiff, though by the end of the episode, Barry manages to be brave without the wish's effects.
Kiff and Barry take great pride in the equal balance of their friendship and call themselves "identicals tentacles". In "The Fourth Bath", Barry even declares Kiff an honorary member of the Buns family, and lets her in on his family's tradition of handing down items by giving Kiff a sweater previously owned by him and his older siblings.
Mary, Harry, Terri, and Kristophe Buns[]
Barry has a great deal of love for his family. While he and his siblings are prone to bickering, as shown in "The Fourth Bath", they consider this normal behavior and love each other regardless.
In "Everyday I'm Riddlin' Riddlin'", Barry becomes frustrated when Trollie prevents anyone from crossing the town bridge, because Mary needs to cross the bridge to get to work.
In "Brunch DJ", Barry is concerned when he and Kiff discover that Harry has been secretly skipping school to DJ at Café Penguino, and by the end of the episode, Barry and Kiff manage to get Harry to return to school. In "Harry's Maturity Crisis", Barry is the only member of the Buns family to be genuinely worried when Harry runs away from home (While Mary is completely nonchalant to Harry running away from home, as she sees it as "a typical thing for teenagers to do". While Terri wants to selfishly move into Harry's bedroom for more room space), and spends much of the episode trying to get Harry to return.
When Barry finds himself needing to learn how to lie effectively in "Two Truths and a Bunny", Terri agrees to teach him. In "Sun's Out, Buns Out", Barry and Terri squabble when Terri hogs the family pool and taunts Barry's inability to swim. It is later revealed that many years earlier, Terri herself caused Barry's fear of swimming by pinching his foot in the pool as a prank and claiming that a monster was responsible. With this revelation, Barry gets over his fears, and Terri ultimately finds herself proud of Barry for doing so.
Barry and Kiff babysit Kristophe in "Farley", and when Kiff accidentally stains Kristophe's beloved doll Farley, the two work together to get the doll cleaned before Kristophe notices. They babysit Kristophe again in "Maybe-sitting".
Trevor Angstrom[]
In his early appearances, Trevor comes into conflict with Kiff and Barry by butting into their friendship; in "Kiff's Mix", Trevor proposes that he and Barry should partner to manufacture the Kiff's Mix cereal without Kiff, and in "Friendiversary", he attempts to replace Kiff as Barry's best friend. In later episodes, however, Trevor is shown to be on much better terms with the two, often assisting them in their adventures.
Ghost Wolf[]
In "Ghost Wolf's Art", Barry becomes Ghost Wolf's art apprentice and helps him find the inspiration to create the paintings commissioned from him by Kiff, and is later invited by Ghost Wolf to continue being his apprentice.

Trivia[]
- In the original pilot, Barry was going to be called Bunny Guinness, or Bun for short. He was also designed with fatter, more rabbit-like legs, and had longer ears that hung over the sides of his head.
- Barry’s father is absent, possibly divorced his mother or passed away.
- Barry does not know how to swim.
- Barry is slightly older than Kiff.
- Barry shares some similarities to H. Michael Croner's other famous character J.P. Mercer from Craig of the Creek.
- During conception/pre-production for the series, he was originally going to be named "Bunny Guinness", and he was much larger in size.[1]
- Several potential character designs for Barry were also created before the final version was designed.
- Barry is named and based on Barry Solomon, a real life friend of Nic Smal from Cape Town, who is also a musician.
- In the Hungarian dub, he has a high-pitched and childlike voice, making him sound even younger than Kiff Chatterley in said dub. This is because his Hungarian voice actor, Norman Holló-Zsadányi, is a child.
- Barry had been absent in a few episodes in the series.
