Jakes Burgers and Beer

In Dallas, one likes Keller’s or one like’s Jake’s. Folks on the Jake’s side of the fence maybe don’t care about drive-ins, and prefer their burgers smothered in Thousand Island Dressing. The lettuce and tomatoes are always fresh, and all that dressing makes it a salad with a hamburger — right? Kinda? Anyway, it’s good.

Keller's Drive-In

Founded by Jack Keller more than 50 years ago, this drive-in burger joint is a Dallas institution. Diners can still score a solid cheeseburger served on a poppy seed bun, crispy tater tots, and milkshake at an affordable price point.

Goodfriend Beer Garden and Burger House

The Bourdain, named after Anthony, is a go-to order at Goodfriend. Conceived at the height of the smash burger era, it features two patties, American cheese, kewpie mayo, tomatoes, lettuce, and all the trappings. Pro-tip: get the sweet potato fries.

Burger House

This Dallas-based chain proves that multiple locations don’t have to mean burger mediocrity. Burger House has been serving up patties to meat enthusiasts across Dallas-Fort Worth for more than 60 years, which probably has something to do with the special seasoning used on those patties.

A steakhouse for a burger? Yeah, when it’s Knife, it’s worth it. The Ozersky is a classic but it also offers the Pimento (with a healthy serving of pimento cheese), the Magic which is served on an English muffin, and the Beef Cheek.

Liberty Burger

Liberty Burger’s five DFW locations offer a family-friendly atmosphere and a crowd-pleasing menu of burgers. The classic Liberty Burger boasts an all-American combo of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and pickles. Fries come in skinny or sweet potato. Don’t skip the decadent shakes, either — they’re especially satisfying when spiked with a shot of booze.

Lakewood Landing

The Landing knows that nothing goes with a beer like a burger. And with that nugget of knowledge, it set about the business of making a great dive-bar burger.

Burger Schmurger

Is this the best burger in Dallas? Giving the title to one place is a hard call. But it’s a damn fine smashburger with a unique sauce that mixes in onions to maximal effect. Find it inside High Fives.

The Peak Inn

The drinks are plain, the bartender is sarcastic, and the burgers are out of this world. It’s third of a pound freshly ground cheeseburgers are truly the platonic ideal of a burger. And the chili cheese melt burger is worth an order as well, if you can handle it.

Herby's

The motto here seems to be: do a little bit but do it hella good. The tiny menu includes a smashburger that comes a few different ways, and comes with dusted tater tots on the side.
