Mondays are historically the least popular day of the week to eat out, even before this winter’s labor and supply chain shortages. Many restaurants have recently decided to open for fewer days and for shorter hours.

No wonder it can seem like options for dining out on Monday at a proper restaurant, not just a fast-casual spot, can feel extremely limited. But there are places to go: here’s a list of terrific destinations for Monday night dinners (reservations recommended in many cases) that encompass up-and-coming places and some old favorites.

This Michelin-recognized restaurant is a wonderful place for a special Monday night dinner. The menu is seasonal and changes often, with dishes full of flavor and fresh produce. It’s a great spot for vegetarians and vegans, because it always has a options and several dishes that can be made to those specifications.

Steak on a Monday? Why the hell not. This moody steakhouse on the East side is a great stop for something a little decadent to start the week off. It’s also go amazing plates of house-made pasta and there’s always a great fish dish on the menu. This is also an ideal place for large groups on a Monday, with lots of large tables.

Some Mondays require pizza, and some very rough Mondays call for a martini. This spot in the Harwood District has both. The crusts are thin, crispy, and flavorful while the pie options go from the expected to put an egg on top (why not?). Equally deep are the martini options, and it is worth trying all of them (perhaps just not all on the same night). If you’re looking for a spot to watch Monday night sportsball, there are TVs a plenty.

Sushi? Check. Steak? Check. Pasta? Check. Some of the most incredible desserts in town? Check. All that and a wine list that has some hard nerd cred — and it’s yours on a Monday. Make a reservation, because its new and fills up fast, but this is a solid spot to indulge on a Monday.

Drop in on Dallas’s outpost of the Asian smokehouse, born as the brainchild of chefs Tyson Cole and Aaron Franklin, even on a Monday. No reservations needed, dogs welcome on the outdoor porch, and it’s all made to share.

Enjoy incredible Italian fare at this Lowest Greenville spot any Monday that your heart and stomach demand it. It was our Eater Awards 2023 winner for Best New Restaurant, and remains one of the go-to places in town. It’s small, cozy, and every dish is excellent.

Lowest Greenville’s perennial favorite, HG Sply, is still around for a solid bowl of delicious bites and those who just enjoy the community of the restaurant’s nightly toast at sunset: at least one round is on HG Sply every night when the sun kisses the horizon, as a show of thanks for customers. When you’re done, or before dinner, head upstairs to the roof deck for drinks and chatting.

The Charlotte

Head here for comfort foods, including burgers, Caesar salads, and shrimp and grits, or for some of the more elevated menu options such as seared duck, spicy lamb chops, and Cajun truffle Madeline. It does a great high/low mix, has a cute vibe (those teddy bears and the early aughts playlist), and is heavily referential of African and Black cuisines. It’s also a good place to get a spicy dish, which is exactly what some Mondays need.

Georgie isn’t just a fancy spot (although it is that too) — it’s a neighborhood bistro. Pop in on a Monday for whatever’s new on the menu. Maybe grab a seat at the bar or perhaps snag a table. It really is as relaxed or dressed up as you want it to be here. But the food is always top-notch.

This unpretentious Tex Mex spot in Lake Highlands offers a colorful setting that’s great for families, groups, and those who need a good spot for an Instagram shot. The menu is loaded with every classic Tex-Mex dish and the prices are right, especially for nights no one wants to cook. Beware the green salsa that comes with your chips though — it packs an adults-only punch.
