16-year-old boy and mother killed in Cicero house fire

The fire happened early Wednesday, sometime before 6 a.m. near 29th Street and 51st Avenue, according to Cicero spokesperson Ray Hanania.

A 16-year-old boy and his 44-year-old mother were killed in a fire Wednesday morning in west suburban Cicero.

Luis Armas Jr. and Aura Armas, were killed in the blaze, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

The fire erupted around 5:15 a.m. Wednesday and fire officials responded to the 5000 block of West 29th Street, Cicero spokesperson Ray Hanania said.

One family member in the home was rescued by firefighters and two other family members were able to escape the home, officials said. Three dogs also made it out safely.

A vacant building near the home also caught fire, Hanania said.

Authorities were investigating how the fire started.
