Root (ルート)was a robot who awaited a peaceful death at the hands of the Ruin alongside his lover, Wrench. He was corrupted by the rumor that he could become immortal and was killed by Casshern.

Physical Appearance[]
Root was a robot who had heavily been effected by the ruin, many of his parts are rusted or replaced with augmented or akwardly placed pieces. He wears a torn green coat over a green undershirt with black pants and black shoes.
Personality[]
Root was a man with the conviction that no matter what, he would die alongside Wrench, with love in his heart. With that ideal in mind, Root embranced the ruin and fit in perfectly with a community like him, but deep down it is revealed that he longed for a chance to live eternally, rather then die and tried to bring others to his cause, costing him his life.[1]
Casshern Sins[]
Root is killed for his change of heart
Sometime after the Ruin began, Root fell in love with a fellow robot named Wrench. The two had the ideals of one day becoming human by succuming to the ruin but by dieing with love in their "hearts". They are spotted by a group of Bandits who detest their ideals of "pretending" to be human and are nearly killed until Wrench's canine, Friender and a mysterious stranger save them from sure death.[1]
He and Wrench take the stranger back to their community and express their ideals of simply embracing their Ruin. A rouge bandit shows up at the community and demands to devour a robot known as Casshern, the one who had begun the ruin, it is then revealed that the stranger is the one and only immortal Casshern. Root announces to the community that if they eat Casshern, that they can recieve eternal life, throwing away his past beliefs with Wrench. Root is the first to try and devour Casshern and the first out of all of them to die by his hand.[1]
