Sichuan Stunner Moving to James Island

Those looking for Sichuan food in Charleston know to search out chef David Schuttenberg at Kwei Fei at the Daily on Fridays and Saturdays, but at the end of the month, he will take the concept to James Island. Setting up in the former Lot space at 1977 Maybank Hwy., Schuttenberg told the Post & Courier that Kwei Fei will open in its permanent home on November 7.

Schuttenberg, formerly of Fish, started hosting Sichuan pop-up Kwei Fei at the Daily last October. Schuttenberg brought the heat with lamb dumplings, Sichuan beef, la zi ji (chicken thighs, dried chilli peppers, spicy bean paste, garlic, and ginger), and more. He took over the 652 King St. space every Friday and Saturday with somewhat of a cult follow of spice seekers.

The updated Kwei Fei address will allow the team to expand the menu. October 28 is the last day for the downtown pop-up.
