While the rest of us have to line up at 4 p.m. for a chance to snag a seat at Chubby Fish (252 Coming Street, Charleston), the queen of hospitality, Martha Stewart, simply hosts a lunch for 25 at the highly acclaimed seafood restaurant.

The iconic Stewart was in town to speak at the Charleston Gaillard Center and promote her 100th book, The Cookbook 100 Favorite Recipes, With Lessons and Stories From My Kitchen.

Stewart posted about the luncheon on her Instagram account, adding, “Chubby Fish is a charming eatery in Charleston -chef James London allowed us to have a luncheon for 25 patrons of the Gaillard Center where I spoke on stage later this afternoon with Charlotte Beers about my new book Martha The Cookbook ! Some photos of the food -Utterly delish! Buttery potato rolls with gobs of caviar Oysters topped with crab and shallots Crudo of fresh tuna with citrus salad of celery and potato chips Filet if [sic] tile fish with habanero cream.”

Past patrons of Chubby Fish will recognize the menu staples like the caviar sandwich, grilled oysters, and Life Raft Treats for dessert.

“Martha was a gem,” says Chubby Fish chef James London, “She bee-lined it to the kitchen and wanted to know all about the food. She was really sweet, lovely, and grateful. I’ve cooked for her before, but I’m really glad I got the honor of introducing her to Chubby Fish this time around. We had a wonderful time catching up.”

While London didn’t grow up watching Stewart on television, he greatly respects the icon. “I very much admire the enormous impact that she has had on food, hospitality, and lifestyle,” he says, “She is a force in our industry, and our conversation further reinforced my admiration for her career and legacy. I mean, she just put out her 100th book. That’s nuts.”

We’re guessing the line to get into Chubby Fish might get a little bit longer with Stewart fans looking to check out the “charming eatery in Charleston.”
