Mary Roman (Democratic Party) is a judge for Number 8 of the Bexar County Court of Law in Texas. She assumed office in 2018. Her current term ends on December 31, 2026.
Roman (Democratic Party) ran for re-election for the Number 8 judge of the Bexar County Court of Law in Texas. She won in the general election on November 8, 2022.
Roman was the judge of Texas District 175.[1] She served from 1993 to 2016.[2][3]
Biography
Mary Roman earned her undergraduate degree from University of Texas at San Antonio and her J.D. from St. Mary’s School of Law. Prior to serving as judge for Texas District 175, she served as an attorney and chief of the Family Violence Unit in Bexar County District Attorney’s Office. She is a member of the San Antonio Bar Association, the Mexican-American Bar Association, the San Antonio Bar Foundation, the San Antonio 100, and the Texas Women’s Forum.[4]

Selection method

Judges of the county courts are elected in partisan elections by the county they serve and serve four-year terms, with vacancies filled by a vote of the county commissioners.[5]
Qualifications
To serve on a county court, a judge must:[5]
- be at least 25 years old;
- be a resident of his or her respective county for at least two years; and
- have practiced law or served as a judge for at least four years preceding the election.
