Campaign themes

2016

The following issues were listed on Schott's campaign website. For a full list of campaign themes, click here.

  • Seniors: Lynn believes we need to protect our community to remain respectful of the dignity, security, and independence of our seniors as their basic earned right, not as a favor or a gift. Lynn will stand by our seniors to protect quality affordable health care, with freedom to choose their own doctors. They have cared for us, and now they deserve to have the care they need. Our parents and grandparents have so much valued wisdom to share with us. Lynn will promote and support programs that encourage our seniors to continue learning, creating, and actively engaging in the community. Their knowledge and experience is a treasure, and we should learn from them.
  • Youth: Lynn believes that the success of our youth must be one of our top priorities. Lynn supports equal opportunity and equal pay based on ability, skill, and job performance, not on race, gender or social status. Lynn is proposing a special program which will not only encourage business, but also will create more jobs in the district. Our youth need more freedom and options to work and earn legitimate income, and become independent. Lynn will promote policies that offer choice and flexibility to allow students to earn high school graduation credit through online classes, tutoring, skills training, and independent study. Lynn will stand with young people to increase support for community colleges, vocational training, and online AA degree programs. Our youth deserve greater opportunities for a brighter future.
  • Business owners: Lynn is committed to promote ongoing, convenient and free educational programs for new and existing business owners to encourage their growth and success. These programs will be established by sponsorship, cooperation, and partnership with banks and financial institutions. Lynn believes that business owners must not be punished by unnecessary regulations. They must be acknowledged as the healthy and productive backbone of our economy. Government agencies must refrain from becoming obstacles and unwelcomed partners of hardworking people by imposing unbearable licensing requirements on business improvements and operations. Business owners must accept shared responsibility, and extend equal opportunity to everyone who is looking for a job. Lynn believes there should be zero tolerance for discrimination of any kind. Lynn believes that dedication and integrity to serve people does not depend on race, religion, gender, ethnicity or age. Public service must be flawless, colorless, and clear.[7]
