Issues
West Valley Casino and Resort
In August 2014, the Glendale City Council voted four to three in favor of a deal with the Tohono O'odham Nation to construct a multimillion dollar casino and resort in Glendale. The deal proved to be divisive within Glendale and it became a major issue in the 2014 elections.[2] Supporters of the deal cited the facility's potential for bringing in new revenues and tourism to the city, while opponents - including a group that filed a petition to turn the issue into a ballot measure - argued that the deal represented a lost opportunity for job growth and that it would pave the way for similar gaming facilities throughout Maricopa County.[3][4]
