Sylvia Guerra Rios is the superintendent of the Laredo Independent School District. Rios was appointed superintendent on July 19, 2017. Rios' previous career experience includes working as a high school principal, an English teacher, and a central office administrator.[1]

Past superintendents

  • A. Marcus Nelson was the superintendent of the Laredo Independent School District from 2009 to 2017. Nelson's previous career experience included working as the chief academic officer of the Judson Independent School District, a high school principal, and a director of secondary schools.[2]

Board members are elected on a staggered basis in November of even-numbered years.

One seat on the school board was up for general election on November 5, 2024. Three additional seats were meant to be on the ballot, but the races were canceled due to only one candidate filing to run for each. The filing deadline for this election was August 19, 2024.
