I am a wife, a mother, a grandmother, and also a state senator. I was born and raised in Michigan, spending most of my childhood in Grand Ledge where I graduated High School. I received my bachelor's degree in biology, with a minor in chemistry from California State University, Fullerton. This is where I met and married my husband, Sam, and we celebrated 25 years together this year.

I live in Brighton Michigan. Sam and I have two children and one grandchild. I have been invested in my community in different capacities since we moved to Brighton in 2000, whether it was helping out at church, working with the chambers, or volunteering for fundraisers. I've also served by chairing the Brighton Area Fire Authority board, the Livingston County Treasurer's association, and the Livingston County Republican party.

My focus has been to see myself as a public servant, rather than insisting people use my title. I tell people this title means I have 260K bosses. It keeps me grounded. This job is both extraordinarily difficult and an amazing honor. I look forward to serving the citizens of Michigan again.

As of January 2023, the new 22nd district will include all of Livingston County, as well as the townships of Stockbridge, White Oak and Leroy in Ingham County, Antrim and Burns townships in Shiawassee County, Argentine and Fenton townships in Genesee County, and Holly Township in Oakland County.

  • I will continue to work with parents who are asserting their rights for their children's education. No one knows the child better than their parents. Prioritizing parents as well as children ensures our students have the best education possible, focusing on the fundamentals while also protecting them from unnecessary "agenda-driven" curriculum or policies.
  • I will work to restore our citizen's confidence in our election process and ensure our elections are free from fraud. Jocelyn Benson’s mass-mailing of absentee ballot applications and her direction to local clerks to ignore the standard for signatures highlighted the need for change to ensure our elections are fair, safe, and accurately counted. My legislation would require ID information be included with absentee ballot submissions, and would remove deceased voters from the voting rolls in a timely manner. Our legislature has introduced over 100 election-related bills to address concerns, weaknesses and failures in our election system.
  • Inflation and high gas prices are affecting our most vulnerable citizens the hardest. Governor Whitmer’s COVID policies and continued overzealous imposition of bureaucratic regulation are keeping the backbone of our economy, our small businesses, from thriving. I will continue to work to provide tax relief to our citizens and to reduce the burden of unnecessary regulation.
Fighting to lower Michigan's highest-in-the-nation auto insurance rates was a large part of my decision to run for office. That policy change resulted in 3 billion dollars being returned to the drivers of Michigan in May of 2022.

While Governor Whitmer was focused on shutting down the state, I worked to open it back up safely. Our kids needed to be in school and our small businesses needed to be able to function. The state is now open, but we can never go back, and we've got a long way to go to fully recover.

Children need to be able to focus on their education without agenda-driven activists blocking parents from having a say. Across the country and here in Michigan, parents and teachers alike were prohibited from voicing their concerns over children's education. We need to ensure teachers have the tools, and parents know their rights, to provide the best possible education to Michigan's kids.

Businesses need to be able find employees and operate without burdensome regulation. The lasting effects of Governor Whitmer's shut-down continue to be barriers for business. Families need to be able to put food on their table and fill their cars without wondering how they're going to do it again tomorrow. There are a lot of things to continue to work on, and I will do everything in my power to help get Michigan back on track.

Theis' website highlighted the following campaign themes:[9]

Regulation

  • Excerpt: "Regulations should be few, simple, predictable and fairly applied."

Taxes

  • Excerpt: "State taxes are high enough already. The government receives more than enough money to do the job it was tasked with under the Michigan Constitution. We don’t need higher taxes, we need smarter spending."

Roads

  • Excerpt: "Our road infrastructure desperately needs to be a priority."

Education

  • Excerpt: "A good, strong education best prepares our children for success as adults."

Life

  • Excerpt: "Life begins at conception."

Scorecards

See also: State legislative scorecards and State legislative scorecards in Michigan

A scorecard evaluates a legislator’s voting record. Its purpose is to inform voters about the legislator’s political positions. Because scorecards have varying purposes and methodologies, each report should be considered on its own merits. For example, an advocacy group’s scorecard may assess a legislator’s voting record on one issue while a state newspaper’s scorecard may evaluate the voting record in its entirety.

Ballotpedia is in the process of developing an encyclopedic list of published scorecards. Some states have a limited number of available scorecards or scorecards produced only by select groups. It is Ballotpedia’s goal to incorporate all available scorecards regardless of ideology or number.
