John Lehman (Democratic Party) was a member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing District 21. Lehman assumed office on July 16, 2012. Lehman left office in 2015.

Lehman (Democratic Party) ran for election to the Wisconsin State Assembly to represent District 62. Lehman lost in the general election on November 6, 2018.

Lehman is a former Democratic member of the Wisconsin State Senate, representing District 21 from 2012, when he won the recall election against incumbent Senator Van Wanggaard, until 2015. He was sworn in on July 16, 2012.[1] Lehman did not seek re-election to the Wisconsin State Senate in 2014.

Lehman previously represented District 21 from 2006 to 2011 and served as Majority Caucus Leader. He served in the Wisconsin State Assembly from 1997 to 2007.

Lehman was running for Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin in 2014.[2] John Lehman lost the general election on November 4, 2014.

Biography

Lehman attended the Universities of Wisconsin-Madison and Parkside and earned his B.A. from Luther College and M.Ed. from Carthage College.

Lehman's professional experience includes work as a history and economics high school teacher in the Racine Unified School District.

From 1988 to 2000, he was a City Council Member and President of the City of Racine.[3]

Lehman ran for election to the office of Lieutenant Governor of Wisconsin. Lehman won the Democratic nomination in the primary.[2] The general election took place on November 4, 2014.

2012

Lehman ran for Wisconsin State Senate District 21 in the recall election against incumbent Sen. Van Wanggaard.[7] He announced his candidacy on January 31, 2012. Wanggaard previously defeated Lehman in the 2010 election.

Unofficial results showed Lehman won the election by 779 votes and he declared victory. Wanggaard considered a recount - the county's board of canvassers had until June 15 to submit final vote totals.[8] With the official canvass showing Lehman winning by 834 votes, Wanggaard called for a recount on June 15.[9] Final tallies released July 2 showed Lehman won by 819 votes - 36,358 to 35,539.[10] On July 10, Wanggaard announced he would not file a lawsuit, allowing the results to stand.[11]

Andrew Mielke (D) entered the race in Mid-March, but did not file nominating papers by the April 10, 2012, deadline.[12] Lehman defeated Tamra Varebrook in the primary on May 8.[13] He will face Wanggaard in the recall on June 5.

Lehman ran for re-election to the Wisconsin State Senate District 21 seat. He was unopposed in the primary. He was defeated by Republican Van Wanggaard in the general election on November 2, 2010.[14] [15]

On November 7, 2006, John Lehman won re-election to the Wisconsin State Senate, District 21.[16]

Lehman raised $201,161 for his campaign, while William McReynolds raised $387,572.[17]
