Wisconsin has long needed a state-based, progressive issue advocacy organization that conducts aggressive grassroots and media campaigns on the important public policy issues facing the state. To this end, the Greater Wisconsin Committee (GWC) was established in 2004 to communicate with people across the state to define and advance the important issues facing our citizens. GWC assembles the best research, strategic and creative talent to educate and mobilize Wisconsin residents on important economic, health, social and environmental issues.[2] |

GWC also produces ads to promote certain issues as well as engages in lobbying. They conduct public opinion polls and research on policy.[3]
In 2014, the GWC spent a reported $737,000 in ads opposing Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker. In response to the ads, the governor held several press conferences to address the accusations that his policies were hindering job growth and that his campaign had been partly funded by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. Walker responded, stating "This is typical of some of the shadowy groups you're going to see, particularly with the big-government unions." Regarding the allegations made by the GWC that he was hindering job growth, Walker said, "Wisconsin now ranks third in the Midwest for actual private sector job creation. That's just this week announced as data came out from the Current Employment Statistics by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics."[4]
