Dan Williams was a Republican member of the Alabama House of Representatives, representing District 5 from 2010 to July 1, 2015. He died after a battle with leukemia.[1]
He formerly served as a member of the Athens City Board of Education from 1979 to 1984, and as a member of the Athens City Council from 1984 to 1992. He then served as mayor of the City of Athens from 1992 until his election to the House in 2010.
Biography
Williams attended Auburn University. He formerly served as First Sergeant in the Alabama Army National Guards 1343rd Engineer Battalion.

Elections for the Alabama House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on June 3, 2014; a runoff election took place where necessary on July 15, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was February 7, 2014. Henry White was unopposed in the Democratic primary. Incumbent Dan Williams defeated Bobby Jackson in the Republican primary. Williams defeated White in the general election.[3][4][5][6]

2010
Williams and Steve Pepper defeated Don Hundleston in the Republican primary, and Williams defeated Pepper in the primary runoff. He then defeated incumbent Democrat Henry White in the November 2 general election.[7][8]
