I'm Pastor Chris Butler, Chicago native and senior pastor of my childhood church, the Chicago Embassy Church. Born and raised in a working-class Chicago family, I have lived all around the city and its surrounding areas. Together, my father (a veteran and postal worker) and mother (who worked multiple jobs and took care of 5 children) kept me anchored in my childhood church, where I currently serve as senior pastor. I've been a community organizer since the 6th grade. I have a BA in Civic Engagement from Northeastern Illinois University in Chicago and I'm the founder of the And Campaign, a national civic engagement nonprofit; the Chicago Peace Campaign, a movement to end community violence; ParentPower Chicago, a family-centered education reform nonprofit; the Citizen Consulting Group, a public affairs firm that specializes in building bridges across diverse communities to create change, and more. After an over two-decade-long career in community service, I'm running for Congress today because I'm ready to help the Democratic Party and the government move beyond the politics of division that currently has us stuck with the status quo and make real change to empower and protect hardworking families who have been forgotten and ignored.
  • Rebalance our economy and put families at the center of our economic system.
  • Recommit to public safety, investing both in traditional policing and community peacemaking organizations
  • End gridlock in the legislature and fight for common sense solutions the political class won’t bother to solve, since the status quo works for them
Democracy: The lifeblood of our democracy is a free, fair, and accessible voting system; today, several reforms are needed to keep this system thriving and working for all American citizens.

Public safety reform: As a vital piece of our community’s efforts to build peace and fight violence, our police force requires support both directly and through outside organizations that they can collaborate with.

Work policy: Today’s Americans work too hard not to be able to afford to support and spend time with their family. Our work policy needs to reflect this.

Tax reform: Today’s ultra-wealthy get an unfair leg-up in keeping their wealth through tax loopholes and other advantages that exacerbate this nation’s wealth inequality. We need to level the playing field.

Guaranteed Basic Income: In an economy where gas, food, and housing costs are getting harder for hardworking Americans to keep up with, a basic income guarantee will support struggling families and revitalize our economy.

Abortion: Current discourse on abortion pits the lives of women against the lives of their children. We need solutions that protect both.

Healthcare: Today, Americans’ race, gender, and wealth status can determine their health outcomes. None of these factors should be at play. We must work to reduce disparities through a high-quality, affordable, and accessible healthcare system.
