昨日、ソフトバンクによるスプリント買収が発表されました。 スプリントは米国3位の携帯電話事業者なので、モバイルが注目されていますが、スプリントは世界3位(Renesys調査より)のTier 1でもあります。 Tier 1とは、世界中のISPやコンテンツ事業者等にインターネット接続性を提供するインターネットプロバイダです。 インターネットそのもののバックボーンとも言えます。 ソフトバンク、NTTと並んでTier 1へ 日本の大手キャリアとしてはNTT、KDDI、ソフトバンクがあげられますが、今回、ソフトバンクによるTier 1が実現すれば、キャリア3社中の2社がTier 1になります。 NTTもTier 1ですが、今回のソフトバンク同様に米国企業(Verio)を買収してTier 1になりました。 今年2月に、Renesysが発表したインターネットプロバイダランキングでは、スプリントは4位(3
