To me, what's interesting is that there is sort of "custom"-like arrangements between the police and civil organizations about this sort of protesting activities. I never heard of that in Japan. Maybe there are for those who are hard-core.
It feel like a very remote issue when I see this from Japan. However, this kind of discussion related to unconventional fossil fuel sooner or later affects our discussion too, like, methane hydrate, shale gas, etc...., the impact of tar sands seem much bigger.
