With XFT support, GnuEmacs is able to use anti-aliased fonts in the X11 UI since version 23.1, released on 2009-07-29. Note that GnuEmacs already supported anti-aliased fonts for the Carbon and W32 UIs before. StatusXft support is included and enabled by default since emacs 23.1.
