A New Japanese Restaurant Promises to Bring ‘All-Natural’ Ramen to Duluth This Summer

A new ramen restaurant takes over former Korean restaurant Yuk Dae Jang in Duluth this summer.

Located off of Pleasant Hill Road next to Vincent Bakery at the Pleasant Hill Station complex, Samurai Ramen will serve what’s described as “all-natural” ramen with broth that the restaurant also claims does not contain milk or MSG. Although, MSG is a naturally occurring amino acid found in many foods, with the glutamate providing savory flavor, or umami. Samurai Ramen plans to feature a beef bone Gyukotsu ramen with broth boiled for 48 hours, according to its Instagram page. The ramen is then topped with beef chashu, a halved ramen egg, kikurage (mushrooms), menma (bamboo shoots), scallions, and shishito peppers.

In addition to ramen on the menu here, look for a selection of rice bowls, like ebi katsu don and the pork belly chashu don, and other Japanese pub dishes.

A second location of Doraville Laotian restaurant Snackboxe Bistro opens this September in the former Prime Bar and Lounge space just south of Samurai Ramen on Pleasant Hill Road. The Duluth location will focus on Lao barbecue and serve as the base of operations for chef Thip Athakhanh’s burgeoning pepper and banana chips wholesale business.

College Park barbecue restaurant Hattie Marie’s Texas Style BBQ and Cajun Kitchen expands this year with three new metro Atlanta locations, including a location in Duluth.
