The importance of EMC testing

UL Solutions has a global network of electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing laboratories that allows us to support you at your convenient location. Our EMC experts have deep expertise and experience in the field of EMC measurement and regulatory requirements. We’ll analyze the ability of your electronic devices to operate as expected in proximity to other electronic devices or in the presence of electromagnetic emissions. We’ll guide you through every step of the compliance process to help confirm your products meet EMC requirements in your target markets.

Causes of EMI and the role of EMC testing

Electronic devices and radio systems can suffer effects from unintended electromagnetic interactions and/or equipment emissions, known in the industry as electromagnetic interference (EMI). For this reason, many countries require new products to comply with EMC requirements before launch. EMC compliance testing helps to prevent EMI, can resolve underlying design flaws and can position your product toward market access.

Meet global product requirements through EMC certification

Medical devices EMC and IEC 60601-1-2

IEC 60601-1-2 is the internationally recognized medical electrical equipment standard addressing requirements and tests for susceptibility to and immunity from electromagnetic disturbances. Learn about the revisions added to IEC 60601-1-2 in order to address new challenges in medical technology.

Wireless device EMC and CISPR 32, 35

Learn about CISPR 32 and 35, EMC standards designed to address continuously evolving wireless technologies.

Explore IEC 61000 and EMC

IEC 61000 is a collection of EMC testing and measurement methods used in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. It is the base EMC standard for the European Union, from which many other EMC standards are generated.

  • Grid quality: IEC 61000-3-2, IEC 61000-3-3, IEC 61000-3-11 and IEC 61000-3-12
  • Immunity: IEC 61000-4-2, IEC 61000-4-3, IEC 61000-4-4, IEC 61000-4-5, IEC 61000-4-6, IEC 61000-4-8, IEC 61000-4-11.
  • Residential environment: IEC 61000-6-1 and IEC 61000-6-3
  • Industrial environment: IEC 61000-6-2 and IEC 61000-6-4
