The William Henry Merrill Society (WHMS) was established in 2006 as a tribute to the founder of UL Research Institutes, UL Standards & Engagement and UL Solutions to recognize the critical importance of the organizations’ technical experts. WHMS formally recognizes those in these organizations who have made significant and sustained contributions to advancing safety science. The Society represents the epitome of engineering, science, technical knowledge and expertise required to advance safety science. Members are committed to appropriately sharing their knowledge and experience with the staff and mentoring others who might someday become Society members.
Membership
WHMS members are designated Corporate Fellows or Distinguished Members of Technical Staff. Inductees must be technical professionals who have earned recognition both inside and outside the three UL organizations as leading authorities in their fields of expertise. They are selected through a detailed review of job experience, technical achievements, publications, patents, professional affiliations and overall contributions to the companies’ shared mission of working for a safer world. Membership is based on overall stature and contribution to that mission through technical excellence.
