Finished Projects

We had another sad vintage frame that I gave some new life and a new look.

I filled up the missing Gusso with lots of various flowers. After that many layers of paint and a mirror, and it is ready to use.

No before photo of this one, it was just a sad wobbly little piece without a top. After sanding, painting and varnishing, I upholstered it with a vintage embroidery with matching side fabric and fun striped piping.

The embroidery was done on velvet, making it all soft. I love its vibrant colors.

I also completely restored this old cabinet, which used to be used to store food in.

,I replaced the rusty wires with new chicken wire, sanded the shelves that gotten dark from many years of use and dirt and also removed an ugly white paint that was done on top of its original green paint.
So happy to see it in its original glory so it can be used again for many years.

And another cute little ottoman, everything used for this one is vintage. The tapestry on top, the kilim on the side, the pouf's skeleton, the pompon trim and the lining fabric, all vintage.

With some love, eco friendly upcycling can be pretty gorgeous if you ask me :)

All pieces are available at StarHomeStudio.

Some Finished Projects

I wanted to show off some special pieces that I finished lately.

This huge headboard was a work in progress for ages, mainly because of the tedious job of removing the old dark brown paint and varnish.

It is always the tasks you don't see that are the most work. Once the old paint was gone, the new paint work was fun and easy in comparison.

An old tapestry was used in the center, it has a nice thick foam so it is soft to sit against.

It is very large, for a king size bed, and makes an impressive statement. I hope to see where it ends up once sold. Available at StarHomeStudio.

This project was kind of spur of the moment, and I love it. Discovered two old Gesso frames in our storage, it had a lot of damage so couldn't be used as it was.

So I gave it a complete makeover. After reinforcing and fixing the frame itself, I filled up the missing Gesso with dimensional roses.

I then painted it all in purple, blue, magenta and orange.

I posted a Reel on Instagram where you can see better the before.

I'm loving the result and am going to tackle the second frame this week :)
Available at StarHomeStudio.

Our Creative Space; Boatwood Project

For most people beaches are a place to swim and sunbath. We funnily enough hardly swim when we are near the sea and never sunbath, or we do get sun baked but not intentionally. During the Summer months the beaches are usually occupied by other people, and although most of them do not appreciate the beauty of the things we find, they do walk all over the shells causing them to break, or they use the driftwood for barbecues (arrrggg the frustration).

In any case in the warm months there are no storms so the amount of treasures are less anyway, now that Fall has come treasures will also appear in a larger amount, and the local fishermen and boat owners will start working on their boats to prepare for next Season.
The later gave us a while back another kind of treasure; discarded boat wood. A rare find actually as people in villages still heat with fires in Winter time so the wood gets burned. We found a pile of them at a wharf and took the pretty parts home.

For ages I wanted to make mirror frames out of some of them, and last Sunday I finally got that project going. I borrowed an electric saw of a friend and first made the wood pieces equally wide and at length. Then I made 45 degrees corners out of them.

I then had to take them to a local framer as normal staples do not work for frames. He also cut the mirrors in size for me and tadaaaa!

Some very cool rustic mirrors came out of them, only the glass and the hanging wires are new all other materials have history, making them unique and eco friendly, a win-win :)

The first frames are listed in our StarHomeStudio shop, I'm planning to make more in the future :)
