In the context of Hit List, after he had secretly agreed to give her more songs, Jesse finishes writing this one and it's a huge hit for Nina. This song sees her transformation to a superstar - starting out with her singing it to a small crowd in a bar, then recording it in a studio, then her getting more and more attention from the press, and then finally, after the song becomes a huge hit, performing it at a concert to a large crowd of people. Unbeknown to Nina, Jesse had written this song about his feelings for her (and their relationship in general).
