History

+0 Years[]

From the time when Mister Sinister was first recruited by Charles Xavier and Magneto to create the genetic bank that would be key to the Resurrection Protocols, he had been working towards a plan of world domination. Hiding a copy of himself in every DNA sample, he had initially planned to gradually seize control of Krakoa as each resurrected mutant would secretly become a modified copy of himself. This plan failed however, due to Hope Summers, whose powers subconsciously corrected this flaw and resurrected pure copies instead.

Using his Moira Engine, Mister Sinister managed to kill Hope and several other key council members, thus corrupting the Resurrection Protocols. Sinister started by taking over several members of the Quiet Council, who began to put his plans to seize control of the Earth into motion. The first step was extending the Resurrection Protocols to all of humanity, so as to ensure the entire planet would be corrupted by Sinister.

+1 Year[]

Within a year, several key members of society were injected with artificial X-Genes, which converted them into Sinisters. Gradually, more and more key mutants on Krakoa also became replaced with Sinisters. Using an orbital canon, the Quiet Council lobotomized Krakoa, and pinned the blame on Orchis. With resurrections for the whole world thrown into disarray, the planet united against Orchis, with the Avengers and other superhumans teaming up with the X-Men to destroy the Orchis Forge and Nimrod. In the wake of this conflict, several Avengers agreed to receive X-Gene treatment, making them Sinisters as well. With Krakoa lobotomized, Mr. Sinister was released from exile within the island and retreated to his hideout to watch his five-year plan unfold.

+5 Years[]

Within five years, the Sinisters were increasingly uncontested. Thanos was assassinated to prevent a predicted genocide-event, with the Juggernaut disposed of in the process. When Doctor Doom grew suspicious and attempted to recruit Namor into an alliance, he was killed by Namor, who had already been compromised by the Sinisters. Doom was replaced by a clone under Krakoan control.

Rumors of another Eternal attack were faked, leading to another war with mutantkind. The twin-nations of Krakoa and Arakko unleashed Uranos and defeated the Eternals, storing them in stasis within deep space to prevent their resurrections. Other superhumans, such as the Fantastic Four and Avengers were disposed of, allowing the X-Men to reign supreme as Earth's mightiest heroes.

The entire Quiet Council was eventually corrupted, with the exception of Storm. When she confronted the Council, she was attacked, narrowly escaping with help from Lactuca. Sinister then emerged from the shadows and reclaimed a seat on the Council.

+10 Years[]

Within ten years, the Sinisters had a strangle-hold on the planet. Those humans who had not yet succumbed to corruption were lining up for their X-Gene injections. The Waiting Room was converted into a Hell owned by Sebastian Shaw, granting Krakoa a seat on the Infernal Parliament. These connections allowed them to destroy the Bifrost, ensuring that Thor and the Asgardians could never return to Earth.

The first generation of Chimeras were soon created, combining the X-Genes of two separate mutants into one being. The waste and pollution of the process ravaged the eastern seaboard of the United States of America. When attempts to assassinate Storm failed, an invasion of Arakko was launched. With Chimeras and a clone of Legion, the planet was destroyed.

The lone resistance to the Sinisters' rule were the remains of Orchis, as as Mystique, Destiny, Storm and the Arakki survivors.

In pursuit of his goal to become a Dominion, the equivalent of a godlike A.I., Sinister wished to put the planet's resources to work towards achieving this. However, he found that he had left too much personality in his puppets on the Quiet Council, and when they voted against him in a decision whether to prioritize research or prepare for war with the Galactic Council, Sinister decided to return to the Moira Engine to reset this timeline and start anew. To his horror, he discovered that his Moira clones had been stolen, leaving him stranded in this timeline.[3]

Desperate, Sinister attempted to manually reassert control over the Quiet Council, but failed. He managed to save his own life by promising to build a new generation of Chimeras which would ensure victory against the intergalactic empires.[4]

The Moira Engine had in fact been stolen by Orbis Stellaris, who wished to ensure that Sinister did not reset the timeline while he used the World Farm to find a way to ascend to a Dominion. Mother Righteous proceeded with her own schemes, under the auspices of trying to reverse Sinister's actions. Through her servant Vox Ignis, she managed to free a number of Nightcrawler chimeras from Sinister's control and recruit them to her purpose; gathering magic artifacts to create the Reliquary Perilous.[5]

+100 Years[]

100 years after Sinister first put his plan into motion, his clones had created an interstellar empire without peer. 53 S.E., the Shi'ar Empire was destroyed through a massive telepathic attack. 77 S.E. Otherworld fell to a chimera attack, and 89 S.E. Xandar's sun was destroyed by a Legion-Proteus-Polaris chimera termed an "Heirburst Bomb". 99 S.E. the alien forces finally managed a response, as the Annihilation Wave and Brood combined to ravage the Earth, unaware that the planet was already practically dead. They were trapped on the dead world as the Sinisters prevented any ships from making their way to or from Earth.[6]

By 100 S.E., the Sinisters rebuilt the Bifrost to destroy Asgard, which had thus far been spared only by its isolation and in the same year, the Sinisters destroyed the last stronghold of the alien alliance opposing them.[7] All throughout this galactic conquest, Mother Righteous' Nightcrawlers had arrived at the moment of these civilizations' deaths to steal what magic artifacts could be salvaged.[6]

Hungry for further conquests, the Quiet Council commissioned Mr. Sinister to create a chimera to lead a mission to explore the cosmos, finding new worlds for the council to ravage. Sinister created Rasputin IV, a five-gene chimera created to be the perfect hero and leader. With Sinister having outlived his usefulness to the council, he resolved to betray them before they could kill him. He undid Rasputin IV's conditioning, and told her of his mistakes in unleashing the Sinister-strain, begging her to help him undo his errors by searching for the Moira Engine. She agreed, and the two embarked on a journey to find the engine and reset the timeline.[7]

While the Moira Engine had been kept protected by Orbis Stellaris, the death of Mystique had robbed Destiny of any reason for preserving this timeline. She approached Storm and her Brotherhood for an alliance, urging her to destroy the engine and reset the timeline. Storm went along with Destiny's schemes, making their way past Orbis Stellaris' defenses. However, Storm felt that it was wrong of them to reset the timeline and effectively end the lives of everyone that had been born in the intervening 100 years. Instead, she had Destiny killed and stole the engine and Stellaris' World Farm.[8]

+1000 Years[]

A thousand years after Sinister's experiment began, the universe had become a hive of countless horrors. The Quiet Council had long since been torn apart, leading to the creation of at least a million Sinister-derived gene polities, large and small.

Mutants had wholly overrun the galaxy and were its undisputed rulers. With their enemies long since defeated, they instead turned on each other. After losing the seventh diamond war, Magik retreated into the Limbic Incursion after her attempt to bring Limbo into reality failed. The borders between the incursion and normal reality were watched over by Colossus' citadels, part of his Space Soviets. Katherine Pryde had been exiled, and now ruled as Pirate Queen of the Void, with a roaming armada stalking the cosmos.

Following the Gene-Reformation, the church of Exodus had splintered into thousands of heretical subsects based on Prayerworlds, housing super-charged Exodus-clones. The two foremost empires were Professor X's Protectorate of the Dream, and Emma Frost's Empire of the Red Diamond. The Empire in turn was aided by Imperator Namor's Drowned Worlds and Sebastian Shaw, who made up a ruling majority in the Screaming Council of Hell, while Beast had been enslaved and made into Emma's court scientist.

Still pursuing leads in search of the Moira Engine, Sinister and Rasputin found a message from Destiny on an Exodus Prayerworld. The message led them to an old satellite housing a phonograph cylinder with another message from Destiny. In it, Destiny tells Sinister to come to her in the past if he can find his Moiras and that she will join him. She told him that the cylinder housed instructions that would allow him to find his Moiras, and ended the message by warning him to give up his quest to become a Dominion, as she could see that he would not succeed.

Sinister was interrupted by Rasputin, who had been listening to the message and had deduced that Sinister was not in fact trying to save the universe. She attacked him, but he managed to eject her from the ship. Following Destiny's instructions, he sought out Moira MacTaggert, using her psychic imprint to locate the Moira Engine.[9] Pursued by an Empire of the Red Diamond armada, Sinister made a deal with Jon Ironfire, regent of the World Farm, now an impregnable fortress. As the armada descended on the World Farm, the Brotherhood's forces narrowly managed to defeat the armada. Fearing the loss of their reality, the armada contacted Professor X, who rapidly arrived to back them up, leaving Jon bolstered by Iceman-genes alone to face him.[10]

While the battle unfolded below, Mother Righteous sprung into action. Sacrificing her Nightkin, as well as making use of one of Destiny's back-up plans to sacrifice a Spirits of Vengeance-possessed Galactus, she finally managed to break the barrier protecting the engine. As she revealed the true purpose of the Reliquary Perilous to her servant Vox Ignis; a holy virus designed to allow Mother Righteous to retain all the knowledge and power she had accrued upon the timeline being reset, she was attacked by her former servant Wagnerine. With Vox Ignis turning against her, Mother Righteous was killed. The Reliquary was instead claimed by Moira MacTaggert.[11]

After convincing Moira to allow his schemes to play out, Sinister uploaded all he had learned in the last 1000 years to the Moira clone. Rather than reset the timeline however, he finally made his attempt to ascend into Dominion. With access to his lab again, he was able to sacrifice every single Sinister-corrupted mutant in the galaxy, using them as fuel to ascend him. To his horror, he found that a Sinister Dominion already existed, and now blocked his path. A dominion that was not derived from him, but from one of the other Sinisters. He was then killed by Jon Ironfire as Moira reset the timeline.[12]

Residents

Trivia

  • In this timeline, the mutant population reached a peak of 8,662,221,825,176,193 by its end. More than 99% of this population appear to have been corrupted by Sinister's DNA, as all but three were killed during his attempt to reach Dominion.[12]
