Restoring Good Manners And Right Conduct
In The Philippine Curriculum:
Teachers’ And Parents’ Perspective
INTRODUCTION

The Problem and its Background

The GMRC must be reinstated in the Philippine curriculum due to the fact that

mostly of the students lack of moral values. The GMRC will introduce them to all

universal values, gender equity, ecological preservation and the integrity of the natural

world, justice and peace, respect for the law, nationalism, and global citizenship.

The restoration of GMRC in Philippine curriculum is intended to straighten the

curve conduct of modern-day students and to teach them excellent values and

responsibility, allowing them to consider from the perspective of others and to help

others. It may also assist them in discovering their life's purpose and what good they may

do for others in society. Moral principles encourage people to be more selfless and to

prioritize the needs of others over their own.

The Good Manners and Right Conduct (GMRC) rules were first implemented at

the primary and secondary levels by department directives issued by the Department of

Education as early as 1991. The four main elements of values education/GMRC are:

respecting oneself, respecting others, respecting one's country, and respecting God.

Additionally, it emphasizes appropriate social norms in the Philippines, such as logical

reasoning and the development of moral judgment through experience. However, GMRC

was removed in 2013 upon implementation of the K-12 curriculum.

Due to the absence of GMRC as a subject, Filipino students began acting

disrespectfully toward their parents and teachers, due to a lack of moral values education,

they frequently act badly at home or in school because they base their decisions primarily

on what they see online, which is dangerous for developing children's values.

Teaching proper manners is a crucial lesson in the formation of a young person,

but it is interrupted for a more supposedly important lesson. However, this study aims to

compare the parent’s and teacher’s perspective on the restoration of GMRC.

This study aims to compare the perspective of teachers and parents on the

moral values of the students.
