"Short Wait" is the first segment of the one hundred-eighth episode of Big City Greens.
Synopsis[]
A hungry Cricket finds a way to speed up a restaurant's short wait.
Plot[]
After having found an unused gift card in the trash, Bill brings Cricket and Tilly to Weekdays, a casual sit down restaurant. Having insisted on spending the whole day leading up to this moment by skipping lunch, Cricket is ravenously hungry and impatient to eat. Upon entering, the hostess tells them that they only have a "short wait" until they can be seated. Cricket is furious about this and cannot sit down. Tilly in the meantime views the buzzer, which is supposed to alert them of when they are next, as a divine decider of shorts and begins to act in a cult-like manner around it, attempting to "appease" it, while Bill looks through the menu.
Cricket decides to hasten up the line by pretending to be an employee there and act as gross and unhealthy as possible, scaring away customers. A health inspector, Suzette Blair, overhears this and demand that the restaurant be shut down so that she can perform an inspection, making the wait even longer. Cricket angrily runs outside in an attempt to find food, but runs into problems. Bill begins to notice that Tilly has grown more delusional with her obsession over the buzzer, but tries to ignore her. The buzzer goes off, but Cricket is nowhere to be seen, threatening them into losing their place in the waiting line.
Bill and Tilly call Cricket over, who runs across the street and creates a traffic accident, but it is too late and they are put at the end of the line. The Greens, give up as the card was only good for today, with Cricket insisting that he couldn't wait because of who he is. Bill tells him that he could've waited "if [he] really wanted to" and Cricket realizes how fruitless his impatience was. He urges Bill and Tilly to join him and wait for real so they can be served. The three sit and watch as various other patrons come and go before they finally go in themselves. The Greens pig out as they sufficiently enjoy their meal.
