With the international species conservation program Berlin World Wild, young conservationists from around the world are supported, who are dedicated to the long-term protection of endangered species and habitats, as well as environmental education.

    The traditional knowledge of indigenous peoples plays a crucial role in species conservation. Adrian Leitoro is dedicated to actively involving shepherds in the landscapes of Mount Marsabit in Kenya in nature conservation. His approach entrusts these shepherds with the responsibility for the protection of wildlife and their habitats. This ensures, in the long term, the conservation of endangered habitats and species.

    Women in Conservation Organization (WICO)

    Tanzania, Africa

     

    Eva Johnson advocates for active female participation in nature conservation. The organization she co-founded, WICO, assists women in Tanzania in exploring alternative sources of income and acquiring the necessary knowledge for implementing species conservation projects.

    Mamirauá Institute for Sustainable Development

    Mission

    Resolve conflicts between humans and jaguars.

    Location

    Amazonas, Brazil

     

    The natural distribution focus of jaguars is the rainforests of the Amazon. Guilherme Costa Alvarenga has been collecting field data on the distribution of these big cats in Brazil for 10 years. In his current research study, he is gathering data on jaguar wildlife corridors. His goal is to collaborate with the local population to develop solutions for peaceful coexistence between jaguars and humans.

    Protection of a rare crocodile species

    India, Asia

     

    Along the Chambal River in India lies the world's largest population of Gharials. Jailabdeen A collects on-site data to examine the impact of human activities along the river on the utilization of sandbanks by these animals. The insights gained will contribute to deriving future conservation measures.

    Red Panda Network

    Mission

    Research on the Red Panda

    Location

    Himalayas, Nepal

     

    The main threat to the survival of red pandas is the deforestation of their habitat in the Himalayas. Janam Shrestha is researching the role of red pandas as seed dispersers. These animals feed on berries and fruits, and by excreting the seeds in their feces, they likely contribute to the preservation of biodiversity in the forests.

    The Mara River flows through Kenya and Tanzania, playing a crucial role as a lifeline for numerous wildlife species and the local population. Mildren Juma is researching the impacts of human influences on the river ecosystem, particularly the potential consequences of hydropower projects on local fish stocks. The data she collects serves as a knowledge foundation for policymakers.

    Wildlife Conservation Research Unit

    Mission

    Facilitating Reintroduction for the Clouded Leopard

    Location

    Taiwan, Asia

     

    In the forests of Taiwan, the clouded leopard has not been seen for over 35 years. Yi-Feng Wang is collecting on-site data to determine if the habitat is suitable and if there are enough prey animals available. He also incorporates the knowledge of local communities into his research. With his project, he is examining the possibility of reintroducing the endangered big cats to this area.
