Day tickets & online shop
Advantages of buying online
Online tickets are cheaper than at the ticket booths on site. When you book your tickets online, you not only save a lot of time and avoid the queues at the ticket booths, but you can also make your booking from the comfort of your own home - regardless of opening hours and without creating a user account! Afterwards, you can download your tickets/vouchers directly and go straight to the entrance on the day of your visit.
Is it no longer possible to buy tickets on site?
Ticket booths at Zoo Berlin are open. However, online tickets are cheaper and also highly recommended to reduce waiting times at the entrances. You can easily make your booking online without creating a user account.
What are combined day tickets?
Combined day tickets allow you to visit the Zoo and the Aquarium Berlin on the same day. You do not have to commit to a specific time slot with these tickets. Only the (binding) visiting date must be selected in advance.
I have a complimentary or pre-bought ticket
Online tickets, tickets purchased in advance (e.g. from BVG ticket machines) and complimentary tickets can be presented at the ticket booths by the entrances (clearly marked) and allow immediate admission. Advance online registration is not possible.
How can I get my discount on tickets?
The discounted day tickets for annual pass holders and tickets at the regular concession rates are available online. Online tickets save you a lot of time and allow you to skip on-site queues. Booking can also be done easily without having to create a user account and youhave the opportunity to save money if you book early.
Any other discounts can only be redeemed at our ticket booths on site (upon presentation or, if necessary, submission of the relevant proof of eligibility – please note the details for redeeming the relevant discount and possibly also present a photo ID). An online registration is not necessary for this. Please note, that discounted tickets can only be purchased for immediate admission (not in presale).
Do kids under the age of four need a ticket?
Admission to Zoo Berlin is free for children under the age of four. Please book a free online ticket in advance for every child aged zero to three years.
Do I have to be on time for my time slot?
No. You may arrive at any time during your booked time slot.
Do I have to leave Zoo Berlin by the end of the time slot I have booked?
The booked time slots only represent the admission time. Therefore, the stay in Zoo Berlin is not limited (within the regular opening hours).
The chosen time slot is binding and cannot be changed after the purchase has been made. Purchased tickets are non-refundable.
Am I allowed to leave Zoo Berlin and then come back later the same day?
Unfortunately, it is not possible to leave the zoo and then come back multiple times during the day. Day tickets are only valid for one admission.
The date I chose is not available
In general, day tickets can also be booked for the same day. If there are no tickets available, they are already sold out.
Do assistants for disabled visitors require a ticket?
One assistant may accompany a visitor with a severe disability free of charge (category H or B; proof of eligibility must be presented at the entrance).
Disabled persons with a disability rating of GdB 50+ receive reduced admission (upon presentation of proof of disabled status). You can find tickets for both categories in our online shop. Booking your tickets online will save you a lot of time and allow you to avoid the queues at the ticket booths. You can easily book online without creating a user account. You also have the opportunity to save money online if you book early.
Can I cancel or rebook tickets?
Booked day tickets cannot be canceled or rebooked. Revocation is not possible either.
Do I have to print out online tickets?
You do not need to print out your online tickets. The QR codes can be scanned from your smartphone or tablet. Please just ensure you have your online ticket open when you reach the gates and that your screen is as bright as possible.
Where can I get group tickets?
Group tickets are available online. Online tickets save you a lot of time and allow you to skip on-site queues. Booking can also be done easily without having to create a user account. You also have the opportunity to save money online if you book early.
Please note: Different rates apply for schools and nurseries. You can find more information here.
Can I also use Tierpark & Aquarium vouchers at Zoo Berlin?
Vouchers can be redeemed at all three facilities – Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark Berlin. But please be aware that prices may differ from the actual value of your voucher.
Vouchers can easily be redeemed online. Start by selecting the desired number of day tickets and/or annual passes in the respective online shop (https://shop.zoo-berlin.de/en, https://shop.aquarium-berlin.de/en, or https://shop.tierpark-berlin.de/en). When you go to your shopping basket, you will have the option to apply a voucher code.
Which discount do I get with the BN (former berlinpass)?
With the "Berechtigungsnachweis" (BN), visitors receive the concessions ticket price. The proof will be checked at the entrance - please have it ready together with a photo ID.
As an alternative to the BN, you can also present your benefit certificate or the "VBB-Kundenkarte Berlin S".
At Tierpark Berlin, you will receive an additional discount from Monday to Friday (except weekends and public holidays). The special rate for BN holders during the week is only available at our ticket offices on-site (upon presentation of the relevant proof). Online registration is not necessary. Please note that these tickets can only be purchased for immediate admission (i.e. not in advance).
Do refugees get a discount?
Refugees receive the concession ticket price. For this, the "Berechtigungsnachweis" (BN, former berlinpass) must be presented. The reduced tickets are available online. The rule applies exclusively to refugees themselves. To accompanying people, the regular prices apply - online tickets are cheaper than at the box office on-site.

Annual passes & vouchers
Gift idea
From typical vouchers with individual values, ticket or annual pass vouchers- we offer several different types of gift ideas.
Benefits of annual passes
Annual pass holders can visit Zoo Berlin 365 days a year – and save money from the fourth visit! What’s more, a Zoo annual pass gives holders a 50 percent discount on tickets to Aquarium Berlin and Tierpark Berlin (and vice versa) and a 10 percent discount in the Zoo’s restaurants and shops.
Tip: If you decide to purchase an annual pass during your visit to Zoo Berlin, the price of your day ticket will be credited against the cost of your annual pass when you visit the annual pass booth at the Löwentor´s entrance. You can find an overview of the opening times here.
Benefits of annual pass subscriptions
An annual pass subscription is cheaper than a regular one and is automatically renewed yearly. At the end of the minimum contract period of 24 months, the annual pass subscription can be cancelled with a notice period of four weeks.
Where can I buy annual passes?
You can purchase annual passes online. Simply fill out the required information at your leisure at home, then come by to pick up your pass.
Please note: All pass holders must be present in person for the issuing of their annual pass.
Where can I buy annual pass subscriptions?
It is only possible to buy an annual pass subscription online. We already offer our regular annual passes at a relatively affordable rate. Our annual pass subscriptions are additionally discounted.
Please note: All pass holders must be present in person for the issuing of their annual pass.
Get credit for your day ticket
For those who are "undecided" and initially opted for a day pass, we offer to offset the day pass price against the purchase of an annual pass. This takes the form of a fixed discount amount, which is credited when the annual pass is purchased. The discount is 30% for combined day tickets (Zoo + Aquarium) and 20% for all other day ticket categories.
All you have to do is go to our annual ticket office at the Löwentor Zoo entrance and present your day ticket.
Please note: The discount can only be applied on the day of your visit and only during our admission times. Subsequent offsetting is not possible, as we would otherwise not be able to afford the (comparatively) low prices of our annual passes.
How do I get my annual pass discount?
The discounted day tickets for annual pass holders are available online. Online tickets save you a lot of time and allow you to skip on-site queues. Booking can also be done easily without having to create a user account and is cheaper than at the ticket booths on site.
Is it necessary for annual pass holders to register online?
No. Annual pass holders do not need to register in advance. However, due to capacity, time slots must be booked for Aquarium Berlin.
Do I need to book a time slot to purchase an annual pass?
No, a time slot does not have to be booked. If possible, please book your annual pass(es) online. Simply fill out the required information at your leisure at home, then come by to pick up your pass. Afterwards, you can visit Zoo Berlin directly.
How to check the period of validity
You can check the validity of your annual pass right here. After putting in the data, you will receive all information and also have the option to extend your annual pass right away. By doing this, you can save so much time, which would normally be spent writing emails or going to the annual pass ticket booth.
Can I change my annual pass within the validity period?
In principle, our annual passes' terms and the scope of validity are binding. However, we are happy to make an exception if you decide to upgrade to a higher-value annual pass (e.g. single pass to a combined and/or family pass) - however, this is only possible on site. Therefore, please contact our annual ticket booths at the Zoo´s Löwentor entrance within our admission times for annual pass extensions.
Please note: Since new annual passes must be issued, all annual pass holders must be present in person for the extension.
How do I renew my annual pass?
You can easily do this from the comfort of your home. Just put in your data and you will receive information on your annual pass, including the period of validity. Here you also have the option to renew your annual pass. Before you do this please make sure to read the paragraph titled „important“, which is located directly under the form for your data. After renewing your annual pass, there is nothing else you need to do. Your chip card can now be used for a further year. When renewing your card online, you can save time by fully avoiding the long lines in front of the annual pass desk at Zoo Berlin.
Issue of children's annual passes
A parent or legal guardian must always be present when a child's annual pass is issued and be able to present appropriate proof of family status (e.g. birth certificate, notification of child benefit, adoption papers).
Alternatively, the children's annual pass can also be issued in the presence of another adult person if a power of attorney from at least one parent with parental authority can be presented together with a copy of the ID and proof of family status. The power of attorney must contain the respective child's name, date of birth, and address. Proof of guardianship, adoption, or foster care (issued by an official authority and personalised) is also accepted.
Family Annual Pass for patchwork families
Of course, we also offer our family annual passes for patchwork families. The only important thing is that all persons live in a common household (with a common address) and that a corresponding proof of family status can be presented for each child (e.g. birth certificate, child benefit notice, adoption papers). If one parent does not live in a common household with their own children, this parent must be registered on the birth certificate or be able to present an official acknowledgment of paternity. In the case of foster children, the respective youth welfare office certificates are required.
Are family annual passes also available for grandparents and their grandchildren?
Our family annual passes are only available for parents and their (own) children. If we were to include other family members, we would not be able to offer our annual passes at the same (relatively) affordable rates.
Are annual passes transferable?
Annual passes are personalised and non-transferable. A photograph of the pass holder is printed on every annual pass. You may be asked to present your annual pass in combination with a valid form of ID.
Please note: In accordance with our General Terms and Conditions, annual ticket holders are liable for loss and/or attempted fraud in connection with their annual ticket. In the event of loss, we offer the option of blocking the card and issuing a new one for a processing fee as a gesture of goodwill. However, this procedure is not possible if a fraud attempt has been made with the card in question before the loss is reported. In such a case, the card will be confiscated and blocked immediately.
Can I use a photo of my annual pass for admission?
For safety reasons, we cannot allow admission with just a photo of your annual pass. We do have plans to digitalize our annual passes. Until then, the physical annual pass must be shown upon arrival.
Should I bring a photograph for my annual pass?
No. You do not need to bring a photograph with you when picking up your annual pass, as one will be taken on-site. For this reason, all pass holders must be present at the on-site sales points for the issuing of annual passes.
Lost annual pass?
If you lose your annual pass, you can purchase a replacement at the on-site annual pass booth by the Löwentor´s entrance for a fee of € 20.
Attempted fraud with annual pass
By our General Terms and Conditions, permanent and annual card holders are liable for loss and/or attempted fraud in connection with their permanent or annual pass.
Should an attempt of fraud have been made with the respective pass even before the loss has been reported, the confiscated and blocked pass can only be unblocked and handed over again for a fee.
Specifically, the following rules apply:
- Single annual passes (for adults, children, or concessions): Pass must be purchased again
- Family annual passes: 50 € per affected single pass
- Annual pass subscriptions and permanent passes: 50 € per individual pass affected.
Please contact the annual ticket booth on-site during our admission times.
Please note: Annual passes can only be handed over to the respective annual pass holder in person (including identity card).
Cancel annual pass subscription
You can cancel your annual pass subscription here.
Attention: Not every annual pass is a subscription model that is automatically renewed every year and can be canceled therefore (the word "abo" must be explicitly stated on the annual pass). Annual passes with a fixed term of 12 months cannot be canceled prematurely.
Closure due to avian flu
In November 2022, a bird tested positive for avian influenza during a routine check at Zoo Berlin. Zoo Berlin, therefore, had to remain closed until 24 December 2022.
We have worked out various solutions for our loyal annual pass holders who could not visit the zoo in the meantime. Below you will find the possible options on how we can proceed with regard to your annual pass:
Option A: Supporting Zoo Berlin
After the difficult pandemic years and the problems with the explosive increase in energy costs, the unforeseen closure naturally affects us financially to a considerable extent. This makes us all the more dependent on all kinds of support. After all, we do not want to have to cut back on the modernisation and further development of our animal husbandry in the future. We, therefore, have to and would like to offer you the opportunity to support us to the full extent within the framework of your annual passes and to forego compensation. Should you decide to take this option, we would like to thank you from the bottom of our hearts!
Option B: Extension of validity
Alternatively, you can extend the validity of your annual pass by the period during which the Zoo was closed (pro rata in the case of combined annual passes). We will get back to you with all the details if you choose this option.
Please select one of the above options and send it to [email protected] together with your printed annual pass number. Please note that it is unfortunately not possible to revoke your decision.
Please note: During the closure period, our annual pass holders also had the option of using their annual pass at Tierpark Berlin in the meantime. We informed you about this on our website and social media channels. If you have chosen option B, but at the same time also made use of the offer of visits to Tierpark Berlin, your entitlement to an extension of validity has expired. In the case of family annual passes, this also applies if only individual family members have taken advantage of the zoo offer.
New admissions system
Zoo and Tierpark Berlin are in discussions with the authorities about plans for a new admissions system that uses facial recognition. Use of the system would be entirely voluntary. Once we have come to an agreement with the authorities, all annual pass holders will be informed of the details online and by mail. Until that time, annual passes will continue to be checked manually by on-site staff.
Where can I buy vouchers?
All our vouchers are available online. From typical vouchers with individual values, ticket or annual pass vouchers- we offer several different types.
Sponsorships
What is a sponsorship?
A sponsorship is a donation that supports the daily work of Zoo Berlinand helps ensure the wellbeing of the animals. As a thank you for their support, sponsors receive a certificate of sponsorship and are invited once a year to an exclusive summer sponsors’ evening. In addition, all sponsors are kept up to date with news from the Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark with the biannual ZooMomente magazine for friends and supporters.
To become a sponsor, click here.
How long does a sponsorship last?
An animal or tree sponsorship automatically ends after one year, while all bench sponsorships have a duration of five years. Sponsorships can be renewed at any time. You will receive a reminder shortly before your sponsorship expires.
You can also save yourself the time of manually renewing your sponsorship by setting up a standing order. This effectively makes your sponsorship unlimited until you choose to end it.
How can I renew my sponsorship?
You can easily renew your sponsorship by transferring the agreed sponsorship amount to our donation account:
Please transfer the full annual sum to:
Spendenkonto Zoologischer Garten Berlin AG
Commerzbank AG
IBAN: DE84 1004 0000 0661 2345 00
BIC: COBADEFFXXX
Reference (Verwendungszweck): Sponsorship renewal for animal / bench / tree
Which animals can be sponsored?
In principle, any species can be sponsored. Only the “celebrities” like the gorillas, rhinos, elephants, etc. are limited to one sponsor each. Not sure which animals to sponsor? You can find some suggestions as well as contact details for a personal consultation here.
To become a sponsor, click here.
Can I sponsor one specific animal?
What is the minimum donation amount required to become a sponsor?
How can I give a sponsorship as a gift?
We are delighted that you would like to gift a sponsorship! Simply complete this online form. The certificate will be sent to you automatically so that you can present it to the recipient in person. You can find contact details for further questions or to arrange a personal consultation here.
How do I receive my sponsorship certificate?
You will be sent the certificate via email as a PDF document as soon as you have filled out the sponsorship form and concluded the process. On request, the certificate can also be sent by post.
When can I visit my sponsored animal(s)?
All sponsored animals can, of course, be visited as part of a trip to the Zoo within regular opening hours.
It is best to book an online ticket for this purpose. Online tickets are cheaper than at ticket booths on site. When you book your tickets online, you not only save a lot of time and avoid the queues at the ticket booths, but you can also make your booking from the comfort of your own home - regardless of opening hours and without creating a user account! Afterwards, you can download your tickets directly and go straight to the entrance on the day of your visit.
Will my name be displayed next to the habitat of my sponsored animal(s)?
Only premium sponsorships include a special thank you displayed next to the sponsored animals’ habitat. A special thank you is only displayed next to the sponsored animals’ habitat for sponsorships of €500 or more per year.
Am I granted free entry to the Zoo as a sponsor or donor?
Sponsorships and donations are intended to benefit the animals and help with the maintenance of the grounds. Therefore, sponsors and donors do not receive free admission, as this would greatly reduce the impact of the financial support provided.
Are donations and sponsorship payments tax deductible?
Yes, all donations made to Zoo Berlin are tax deductible.
When do I receive my donation receipt?
For one-off donations of up to €300, you do not need a donation receipt; up to this amount, German tax offices accept the cash deposit slip or transfer confirmation from your bank as proof of the donation. For donations of €300 or more, a donation receipt will automatically be sent to you in spring of the following year.
Please note that donation receipts can only be issued in the name of the account holder.
Which account should I transfer the sponsorship payment to?
Once you have chosen a sponsorship, and if you do not wish to conclude the process online, please transfer the full yearly amount to:
Spendenkonto Zoologischer Garten Berlin AG
Commerzbank AG
IBAN: DE84 1004 0000 0661 2345 00
BIC: COBADEFFXXX
Reference (Verwendungszweck): Sponsorship for animal / bench / tree
Can a donation be automatically debited from my account?
For your protection, donations cannot be debited from your account; they must be actively transferred by you. However, you can set up a standing order to transfer the money. Transfers can only be made online here or directly through your bank. If required and on request, we can send you a transfer form.
What should I do if my account details change?
Should your account details change after you have set up a standing order via the Zoo website, please contact [email protected] and request in writing that we delete the account information we have on record. You will then need to set up a new standing order online here or through your bank.
How do I cancel an existing standing order?
To cancel a standing order that has been set up via the Zoo website please send us an e-mail at helfen@zoo-berlin.de. Standing orders that you have set up through your bank can only be terminated with your bank.
Can I donate food and materials?
Thank you very much for your offer and willingness to help! Our animals’ diets and habitats are governed by a very strict hygiene and quality concept to avoid any possible health and safety risks. Ensuring that food and material donations adhere to this concept would require a great deal of administrative effort. Unfortunately, for this reason, we cannot accept food and material donations.
However, you can support the Zoo online with a “digital food basket”. You can find further information here.
Learn more about current fundraising projects
Up-to-date information on our various fundraising projects is available here. Supporters also receive the latest news from Zoo, Aquarium and Tierpark Berlin twice a year in the exclusive ZooMomente magazine.

Panda Garden
Zoo Berlin is home to Germany’s only giant pandas. Come see these adorable bears in our Chinese-style Panda Garden – one of the most beautiful panda habitats in the world. You can find further information here.
Empire of Cats
The Empire of Cats, which opened in 2022 after several years of renovation, offers animal experiences of a special kind- here people are guests in the animal kingdom. FAQs
How can I support the Zoo?
Thank you! We hugely appreciate your commitment to Zoo Berlin. You can find information on all the ways to support Zoo Berlin here.
When is the best time to see the pandas?
Our giant pandas spend most of the day eating or sleeping. They are usually most active in the morning from 9 a.m. By the way, pandas love cool, damp weather, so on hot summer days, they can usually be found in their air-conditioned indoor habitats (visible to visitors from the Panda Plaza).
Can I feed the animals?
In general, visitors are not permitted to feed the animals at Zoo Berlin. This is the job of the keepers, who know exactly what each animal should eat and what is bad for them.
Is there anywhere to store luggage?
No, for security reasons we unfortunately cannot store your luggage.
Is there a lost and found?
If you lose something on your visit to the Zoo you can contact us at info@zoo-berlin.de or visit us in person at the ServiceCenter located by the Zoo’s Löwentor entrance.
Can I bring a bike or scooter to the Zoo?
To ensure the safety of our animals and other guests, bicycles, scooters and skates must be left outside. Balance bikes and children’s scooters (up to the age of 5 years) may be brought onto the grounds.
I broke something during my visit! What should I do?
First of all, thank you for your honesty! Please inform someone at the entrance or send an email to info@zoo-berlin.de so that we can repair the damage as quickly as possible.
May I take photos and videos and post them online?
Of course you may take videos and photographs at Zoo Berlin for private purposes. When doing so, please stick to the visitor paths and make sure you do not use flash in the animal houses. You may also post your pictures to your private social media accounts. Feel free to tag the official Zoo Berlin account (@zooberlin) so that we can also see your snapshots. Commercial use of your pictures and videos is not permitted.
Please note: For the safety of our animals, selfie sticks are not permitted.
I need advice on a domestic or wild animal, or I would like to donate an animal to the Zoo/Aquarium
The Zoo is home to approximately 20,000 animals, and they are keeping our biologists and zoo keepers very busy. Please understand that they do not have the capacity to answer any questions about pets or wild animals in your care.
For veterinary reasons, we can also not accept any wild animals or pets into our care.
Why does admission cost what it does?
Zoo Berlin is home to more species than any other zoo in the world and has considerable operating costs. The keeping of exotic animals, in particular, is very expensive. To give you an idea: our animals eat around 180,000 kg of hay and 55,000 kg of fish a year, and some animal residents require heated or air-conditioned facilities year-round. Plus, the cost of energy and animal feed is almost constantly on the rise! Despite all that, the entrance fees charged by Zoo Berlin are still far lower than those of zoological facilities in many other major European cities. What’s more, the zoo in Berlin is both significantly larger and home to a wider variety of species.
I want to work at the Zoo!
We’re very pleased to hear it! After all, zoos must be some of the best places in the world to work. You can find all the information on current job openings, internships and training placements at Zoo, Tierpark and Aquarium Berlin here.
Construction works at Aquarium Berlin
What is currently happening at the aquarium?
During a comprehensive modernization, there is construction work and consequently restrictions in the aquarium. You can find all the important information here.
How can the aquarium still be visited?
The street entrance of the Aquarium is currently closed. The Aquarium can only be entered via the Zoo’s Elefantentor entrance.
Guided tours at Aquarium Berlin
Unfortunately, we are currently unable to offer any guided tours or workshops at the aquarium. Only the animal encounters with the sharks are still taking place. Family tours, children's birthday party tours etc. will of course be bookable again as soon as the construction work is complete. There are no restrictions on the guided tours on offer at Zoo and Tierpark Berlin. Further information on guided tours at Zoo Berlin can be found here and at Tierpark Berlin here.
