How to Draw a Frog - Step-by-Step Tutorial
Step 1: Start with the head. It is like a crooked "J" shape. The mouth line is an extremely thin line right below the long bottom line of the "J".
Step 2: Draw the back of the head. Make a small bump on top of the head. This will be the eye on the back side of the head. Add a round eye just below the bump. Make another circle within the circle. Add a short line from the bottom of the mouth on an angle down for the neck.
Step 3: Where you stop drawing the neck draw a bent line down to make the front of the front leg. Add another line right next to it with the same bent angle. This makes the thin front leg. Behind the back line of the front leg continue a line across to make the belly line.
Step 4: Next draw the front foot at the bottom of the leg. There are three long toes on the foot.
Step 5: Continue the back of the neck line into the line to make the frog's back. There is a small bump right in the middle of the line. At the end of the back line draw the back leg. It almost looks like a paperclip. Draw an upside down "U" with the top of the U almost reaching the belly line and the bottom at the end of the back line. Draw a regular "U" slightly to the left of the upside down "U" so that one side of the U is inside the other.
Step 6: At the bottom of the right side up "U" add the back foot and three long toes. The toes will be the same size as the front toes.
Step 7: Right below the head add the other front foot. Don't forget the three toes.
Interesting Facts about Frogs
Frog tongues grow to be 12 inches long. Frogs use their tongues to catch their food, such as insects. Frogs also eat snails, worms, and spiders. When they eat, they use their eyes to help them swallow by blinking.
Did you know?
- Frogs are born in the water. They hatch from eggs, and are called tadpoles. Tadpoles are born with gills and live in the water. They eventually grow up to become frogs and live on land.
- Only male frogs croak. Frogs don’t just “ribbit.” Some of them whistle, chirp, cluck, or bark.
- Rather than drinking, water is absorbed through their skin.
- Frogs can see in all different directions when they bulge their eyes out.
- Frogs use their very strong back legs to jump far distances, swim, and dig.
- Some frogs are poisonous. This includes the poison dart frog and the golden poison frog.
- Frogs can be found all over the world, except Antarctica, and they live in all kinds of climates. Frogs that live in colder areas hibernate in the winter, usually in shallow holes.
Frogs shed their skin about once a week, then eat it. The lifespan of a frog depends on its species. Bullfrogs can live up to 30 years.
